It's almost time for the watercress, my aunt's friend used to bring it to potlucks, had a Miracle Whip and milk dressing, suspect it did contain a pinch or 2 of sugar, but why couldn't you use stevia instead? Mouth waters just thinking about it, used to pick maybe late February or March, had to move fast because if her lambs found it they'd eat it first. Did I ever mention Knox County Ohio is the largest Sheep producer East of the Mississippi? Well it's true, one small item to boast of on here!

I just try a little bit of different things to see what godward well or causes gas. I’m seven weeks out. Most foods do fine as long as I remember to chew well.

Iceberg lettuce literally has so little nutritional value that it is a waste of space. They only time that eating it is a good idea is when you are constipated. For some reason, iceberg lettuce goes through most of us like fat through a goose.

If you really miss salads, learn to love kale, spinach and other dark hearty greens. Even then they will be in very small portions. They are very fibrous and can be difficult to digest in the beginning. But they are at least nutritionally dense and worth the space they take up.

Yeah I'm 6 weeks po sleeve and the idea of those dark greens in my stomach right now makes my guts clench! I really love salads and like greens but I didn't tolerate spinach that well pre op so not sure how it would go now. I do like Kale in a nice Soup though, but not raw or blanched, and it's not the taste, I just find it too heavy for me! Each to their own though!

Wow yeah I might change my mind, I'm just so tired of eating meat though, so I want to see how salads do when I can eat them, and it gives me more variety.

Girl, I'm with you. I'm starting to wonder why the huge push for Protein over a well balanced diet. A person can eat too much protein...if you eat more protein than your body can use, it also gets stored as fat. I get it while we're in weight loss phase, but seems a person could back off the protein only diet once in maintenance, just stay away from processed foods, sugar and carbs...

Iceberg lettuce is hard to digest. The chopped kind is a little better but some people can’t tolerate it for quite a while.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
