Confession time! Please judge me, I need it.

Recommended Posts

Okay! Here it goes.

I had surgery on the 17th of Feb. Today marks 2 weeks post op. Surgery went well. Spent 3 days and 2 nights in the hospital. The 1st day I accidentally ate an orange and almost died. The 1st week I did well. Protein Shake and Oikos yogurts and pain pills. The doctor told me to increase my Water intake but I just can't drink two bottles a day. This week I felt hungry. I was starving. The Protein shakes weren't cutting it. I decided to start soft food earlier. He's the confession. I would chew the food and spit it out. I had some meatballs, and fish, and food I know I shouldn't be eating. I told myself that because I'm not actually swallowing it then I should be fine. Today I feel horrible. I know that habit is a bad one and I should stop before it gets out of hand. I decided to start this week over and go back to full liquids. Today I restocked on protein, yogurt, Jello and water. I'm going to do it the right way this time.

It is good that you know what you are doing wrong and are willing to start doing what you need to. Nobody needs to judge you or tell you what you need to do. You are doing it on your own. I had the sleeve done. But we all learn from our mistakes. Keep it up and you will do fine. Maybe join a support group if you find the need!

Thank you! I just had a slip up but it won't happen again. I just had to get back into focus

I am almost 5 months out. I really think it happens more of us then we let on to be honest. Nobody is perfect! You will get there. It is really hard in the beginning. You are not used to not being able eat whenever you want and the smell of food. I remember. But at the same time and even still there are times I don't even want food. It will get easier.

Recognizing the unhealthy behavior for what it is half the battle. Good for you for that and stopping it!

Wow! I think you need to figure why you're dead set on sabotaging your self. Because if I recall after the orange ordeal you said never again. And now this? I think it's apparent you weren't committed to what it takes to be successful at this. I'm a cardiac RN..I deal with non compliant patients all the time. People who think they know better than the medical profession. They sabotage their recovery. Refuse to follow doctors orders. End up sicker or worse..dead. You're going to do some serious damage if you haven't already. Better seek help. Support group..therapist. Someone who can help you. I wish you luck.

@mikie0130 I'm committed. Trust me although my action show otherwise. I just had a couple of hiccups and thank God it wasn't worse. I'm back into the zone. I definitely don't want to sabotage my recovery. Thank you.

That's awesome! You can do it. But I do recommend you reach out to someone who can help you stay focused. The fact you're so early into this journey and have had several 'hiccups' says you could probably use the extra help. I find a support group to be of great help. You're not alone..

You're very welcomed. I'm 4 weeks post-op from by pass surgery. I'm allowed puréed foods. My 6 week follow up is on the 15th and I should be advanced to food then.
It's been a heck of a journey. I had horrible head hunger the first week in a half to two weeks. But it passes. It takes a bit for your head to catch up to your body...but it will. Just every day try and stay focus. Keeping a journal helps me. I can visibly see what I'm taking in. My issue is Fluid intake. Not taking in enough. I can get my Proteins in fine but liquids I struggle on. So hang in there. The head hunger should pass. I get up every day and say a prayer and try to do the best I can. I'm down 42 pounds and feel so much better. You'll get there...I promise. Just follow your doctors orders. They aren't just to make this successful for you they are also to help prevent serious complications. You can do this! [emoji846]

I do it all the time[emoji55][emoji17] but like you i just want the taste in my mouth and spit it out and it satisfies me and i rinse my mouth out. Im 3 wks post op, i think once we start regular food it will be easier mentally.

Honestly, consider yourself lucky. I'm 5 weeks out and basically the first 3 weeks post op I ate nothing. In the beginning I was able to do yogurt but things started going down hill and I was dehydrated and developed a kidney infection. I was in the ER 3 times in the first 3 weeks. Every single time it was for nausea. SEVERE nausea. Theyd get it under control and send me home then it'd come back worse than before. FINALLY on day 23, I believe it was, they sent a nurse to my house and gave me steroids and Vitamins via IV and it literally saved me. I haven't had to take any nausea meds since then! At one ER visit I needed a potassium infusion because I was throwing up so much it threw off my electrolytes. Let me forewarn you... potassium infusions BURN. they burn a lot. Everyone's recovery is different. Be glad your only battle is head hunger. I went through so much misery those first few weeks that the thought of eating something that could make me sick again is so repulsive that my family could eat whatever they want in front of me and it doesn't bother me in the slightest. It'll get better it just takes time

I'm sorry you had to go through that@Marissa.Ann.C thanks for sharing that with me. I'm glad your better now. When I decided to start this journey I knew what I was getting into. I know it wasn't going to be easy. I'm fighting. The last few days I just let "head hunger" get the best of me.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
