Need advice: Protein drinks

Recommended Posts

Thank you everyone! I got some Isopure and plain grass fed whey to mix into my meals. So far so good. Now if I can figure out how to stop the acid reflux we'll be set. This is all so weird and new to me. My nutritionist appointments were so vague and no body really filled me in on what to buy.

Does your surgeon not have you on omeprazole to help with reflux/reduce it for a bit? If not, ask them about it.

I highly recommend the vitamin patches. You can get them from the BariatricPal Store, or you can get them from PatchMD.com. Either way both stores have them and they're great. I've been using them for about 6 months.

Hi, I'm 7 days post op and I am having a really hard time tolerating the premier Protein premade drinks. They are so gross & Too sweet for me. I also think they are irritating my stomach. I wake up every morning with lose bowels. I know, I'm sorry TMI, but I didn't know who to ask? . Can anyone recommend another way to get my Protein in besides the doctor approved protein yogurts? Maybe some that aren't so sweet, or clear ones, or lactose free ones that are clear? Thank you in advance

I had a similar problem post op. Didn't mind the shakes before surgery but after they make me wanna vomit. My go to is 8-10 oz milk plus a scoop of GENEPRO flavorless protein (30 grams of protein). Mix and serve.

My surgeon put me on Protonix twice daily and my heartburn has completely disappeared. I would ask your doctor for something.

I got so sick of those too. Try fairlife milk chocolate, 2tbsp Peanut Butter, 1 tbsp Greek yogurt, 1/2 cup ice. Blend and it's awesome. Almost like a Wendy's frosty. Also, the Atkins strawberry shakes are ok - 15g Protein. But all the pre made shakes get old fast. Good luck.

IMHO, if it is related to the bariatic surgery journey, there is never TMI.

I just switched to Fair Life. My suspicion is that the body can't absorb all the Protein that I consume when mixing Protein Powder with the milk, but it can't hurt either.

Did they tell you to get calcium citrate? That normally helps with the acid in ur stomach. Hope you get better with that.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
