First day home. I must say I was a little naive about what i would face at home. For starters, Im 6' tall and all of our furniture isnstandard.... (short) . In the hospital i could lift or lower the bed, so i had minimal pain. After bieng home for 1 night, I discovered that i need the pain meds more rhan i did in the hospital. It has been harder for me to move at home. Getting on and off the couch is torture. Hoing to the rest room is a major accomplishment ineeded help getting in and out of bed. On a positive note, I have been able to get almost 2 shakes in yesterday and 1 and a half bottles.of Water. I just wasn't prepared for the pain of moving aroind at.home.

The good news is your home makes things more difficult, but should also make recovery better too because you are getting more exercise just doing normal activities.

Keep up with the pain meds as prescribed. If you aren't in pain, you'll move more and heal faster.

Hope you feel better soon!

They make toilet seat boosters that raise the level of where you are sitting. They would be found at medical supply places.

I experienced the same thing. I barely used the pain meds while at the hospital, but at home I took them on a regular basis the first few days. I tried to put some folded blankets down on our living room chair to give me an extra inch or two to make getting up a little bit easier. Might have been more of a mental thing, but I would sometimes hold a pillow against my stomach when getting up. Seemed to keep things from moving around as much when getting up and down.

Good news is that in another day or so you should have an easier time of getting around. Just keep taking it easy and take your time getting up.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
