I swallowed a small piece of gum

Recommended Posts

It's been sitting in my throat for an hour now.

Will it go down?

Should I drink warm liquids!

Lord what was I thinking about!

I have chewed it before and this never happened.

Have you tried to eat anything yet? How did it go?

I was of the understanding that we shouldn't chew gum for that very reason...because it will get stuck and may require surgery to remove! :rose:

You better call your doctor!

Good luck, I have looked at other sites and didn't see any posts on how to get the gum to go down. This was one of the things my dr told me about and I have come close to chewing some, but caught myself.

I hope it passes sweetie.

Try pineapple juice. I read on another thread it helps pass things.

I also have aloe vera dessert, found in the Oriental section of my grocery store for just such occasions, but pineapple juice is something you might have handy.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.....

I am not even sure now.

I did my 4 mile walk today.

My passage became clear and I could swallow.

Now that I am resting I feel the gum or maybe mucous again.

I have severe allergies as well.

I dont know what it is but I am able to eat and drink.

My doc said not to worry.

She said if I can swallow a pill A piece of gum is fine.

I don't know!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
