Ideas on the liquid

Recommended Posts

Leading up to my 2 week pre-op phase I substituted at least one meal with a cup of chicken broth (technically bullion cube in hot water). Mentally it helped get me ready for the liquid phase. Didn't completely prepare me but it did help at least.

Are you drinking Protein shakes already as part of a diet plan?

I did it cold turkey. 5 Protein Shakes a day. It's really not as bad as you think once you get past the first few days.

Although I haven't began my pre-op diet because I don't have a surgery date yet, I'm really confused about the pre-op diet that I was given by my nutritionist. The diet I was given states that 2 weeks prior to surgery I go carb free, which allows meat and vegetables but no fruit or dairy , then 24 hours prior to surgery we are to do a liquid diet NPO after midnight. My nutritionist is also telling us in our classes that we don't have to do the shakes because we will get our Protein from our foods. I understand that every surgeon is different, but from what I've been reading it sounds like the nutritionist that works with my surgeon is misleading the patients. I go for my final appointment to see my surgeon next week before getting my surgery date and plan on talking with him about both the pre-op and post-op diet because I so badly want to be successful in my weight loss and do no want to experience any complications from not getting te correct amount of protein and other nutrients.

Sb135 I have seen actual sleeve procedures on YouTube and have seen the liver to be so floppy and when I go to my classes they stress the liquid diet so that during the procedure they don't accidentally hurt ur liver since it has to be lifted from the stomach? I will ask my dr if there is a website that can help u.

Thank you so much brooklyn42. I've told my husband that my nutritionist's info sounds really wacky compared to all of the research I've done about the surgery as well as what I have read from those who have had the surgery. I'm not really sure if my surgeon is aware that we are being told not to drink the Protein Shakes or not, so I'm going to talk to him next week. Personally I'm going to do the Protein Drinks regardless of what she says lol.

About a month before my surgery I was already replacing a meal (lunch) with a Protein Shake. I didn't have a preop diet, other than the usual day before liquids and fasting after midnight

I start my liquid diet tomorrow. Cold Turkey too. I was set for surgery March 9th so I was starting liquids on the 23rd. Well this morning I received the call that my surgery was moved up a week. Now liquids start tomorrow! I am so ready to get this going. Best of luck to all of us.

My nutritionist gave me a very detailed list of what I can eat the two weeks pre op. It consists basically of five meals a day and you pick something from each column until you have had your five meals. Two columns are basically shakes one column is specific Protein bar and I ther column is 4 oz lean Protein and veggies . The list is very specific on brand and quantity allowed . The same with post op up till day 50 only specific foods for each stage ie liquid, soft food mushy foods etc . Only eat what is listed nothing else

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
