When Can I Ride?

Recommended Posts

I'm planning on having my surgery around the middle of April (God willing) and there's going to be a bike ride event happening about a month later.

My question is this: has anyone whose had the RNY or Sleeve done managed to bicycle 30 miles a month out from surgery? Not mountain biking or anything like that, but paved bike trails.

No. I was able to swim 2 days short of a month, but I already was in good shape and only 75% overweight. I dropped 25% of my weight in the first month. Unless you were already exercising like crazy before the surgery, and walked walked walked during the first month, and were as small as I was already, probably not. The incisions and the like are an issue.

You haven't factored in the inability to eat and drink to support the above either.

Love the enthusiasm for biking and wanting to get out there after surgery!
How much biking do you do now? How quickly are you going to have to go?

A month is still pretty close to surgery. A lot of your body is still healing and it is better to wait than to risk an injury. So my guess is, sadly no. Unless you are doing century rides now. The good news is that rides after the healing process are going to be so much easier.

Ultimately this is up to you and your surgeon/team. I wish you all the best and good weather!

I kind of figured as much. I haven't ridden in a while due to having a cheap bike that the gear broke on the last time I tried to ride it and so it went bye bye and I haven't had the money to get a new one. I'm hoping by the end of the month I can get one though. I'm really excited about April getting closer. I just hope it's not June before I can get my surgery.

Right now I'm walking a mile every other day and doing resistance bands the other days.

A new acquaintance shared with me a YouTube video by The Fitness Marshall that look like so much fun that I'm going to start doing those as well. I love to dance and that's what these videos are are dance workouts.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
