Well I am very new here. I start my first supervised weight loss class next weds. My insurance is requiring six months worth no idea what to expect during these classes. I hope after all is said and done my insurance will approve me for surgery.

My insurance requires 6 months of a supervised diet with weigh-ins. I have to attend three support group meetings and three nutritionalist meetings. When I go for the monthly diet visit, they get my weight and go over healthy eating habits. We have to fill out a diet document that has a checklist of goals like eating more Protein, less sugar, no soda, no straws, 30 minutes before and after eating no liquid, and exercise. There are more goals, but that's the big ones. The insurance gets these at the end for review before final approval. Every program, doctor, and insurance is different. I have Highmark bcbs.

Good luck and congratulations on starting your journey!

Hi. My insurance requires 6 months of dietician visits, 1 psychologist visit, & 1 support group meeting. Haven't had my 1st dietician appointment yet (march 2nd) but I did do the support group last night & the information I received from those that are in my stage & those that have already gone through the surgery were very helpful. Just know this long process will be worth the wait as long as your taking in everything....I hope we all are approved in the end ?? Best wishes ??

My insurance is through BCBS Anthem. Yesterday I completed my 5th diet visit. So far Ive lost about 20lbs, honestly Ive been concentrating mostly on eating slowly, chewing more and sipping. I also cutout sweets and soda. Ive been increasing my Protein to help after surgery. I havent tried any Protein Shakes because Im sure what I can tolerate now may be quite different after surgery so Ill have a few samples ready and decide afterwards. Ive been using a sippy cup from time to time to help train myself. The pysch test was boring but necessary. I was told 3hrs but lasted maybe 45mins. Cardio testing was a workout but proved how much I am out of shape. My next appointment is March 9th. They said the insurance company can take up to 16days I believe to approve. So maybe at the end if the April for surgery. Good luck to you.

Also I wanted to mention if you havent found a surgeon yet, you may want to find a office that does alot of the requirements in one location. I did pysch evaulation over the phone but everthing else is out of the same location. The have a nutrionist on site and the other personnel comes to that location for the other testing. I am not sure if all surgeons are setup that way, maybe?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
