Colonoscopy

Recommended Posts

I have a question. I'm of the age that I should have a colonoscopy :faint:. I've been wondering if anyone knows what, if any, effect this has on the lapband. Is it one of those things that would require band fill to be removed before the procedure. I've heard the prep for a colonoscopy is somewhat dreadful.

HI: Good question. I go to my doctor for my first fill tomorrow and will ask, as I am scheduled for a colonoscopy the first week of November. I will let you know tomorrow.

Yes Rosie. You are correct. I do know what goes in which end.

I was pretty much fishing for info from someone who has been through it before. When it comes to medical treatments and procedures I tend to conduct my own clinical trials and go straight to the section of the population who can provide me with the best information. My surgeon has never had a colonoscopy with a lapband in place, so I won't be asking him.

Thanks Rosie.

Ah, gotcha!

Yep, my dad just had one with the new prep kit and preferred that by FAR to the former gallon prep. If the GI guy wants you to use the PEG/GoLytely, ask if you can take the other prep (OsmoPrep).

There are options for the colonoscopy pre-procedure day. Everyone I talked to did the gallon of crappola thing and said it was AWFUL. So when they were going to give me the stuff, I said "What are my options?" and they said, "Oh we have pills too." I said ABSOLUTELY because I take pills easily. Wound up taking something like 2 horsepills every 15 minutes for a couple of hours. Absolutely NO BIGGIE at all, and I sidestepped ALL that nasty drink stuff. The problem is, most people just ASSUME that the gallon of nasty stuff is the only thing available...they don't ask or argue or anything! My procedure was a complete NON-ISSUE. And so fr I am the only person I know who has asked and demanded something other than the gallon of nasty stuff.

I had to take magnesium citrate before my banding.. it was a 6 or 8oz bottle.. and it really wasn't horrible.. the red flavor. Tasted like sour cherry sprite or something.

And my husband had to take some via doctor's orders last week, and he actually chugged it all at once!

What is the 'gallon' of nasty stuff?? And why wouldn't you use magnesium citrate?? Don't they do the same thing?

Of course-- I'd still ask about pills.< /p>

I'm not banded yet, but did have the colonoscopy today. My pre stuff was HalfLytly. Only a half gallon, and each 8 oz was chugged quickly every 10 minutes for 1 1/2 hour. It crossed my mind, what if I had been banded and if I could chug 8 oz. Proedure itself was simple, I slept thru it. no pain, no nothing.

I had to do the same thing as you. That stuff started to make me nauseous. I ended up leaving 2 cupfulls because I just couldn't drink anymore. But what I did drink did the trick! I was not banded when I had the test done. I'm scheduled to be banded on Monday, 10/1.

I have been banded since December 2007 - I had a colonoscopy last month. No problems at all. I used the Fleet phosphosoda as my "clean out". You have to drink three 10 oz glasses of Water with the lemon-ginger flavored stuff every 30 minutes. Just remember to drink lots of water after the "clean out" since it is pretty easy to become dehydrated. The colonscopy shouldn't be something to be concerned about ; )

I just had a colonoscopy today!!! All is good. Iam banded and have 6.5 cc's in a 10 cc band. They say to drink the solution quickly. Its a 8oz glass every 10 min and you have approx 8 glasses! Now my gastro Dr was aware of my band and said to drink it as quick as I could but not to make myself sick. He said as long as I got down as much as I could he was ok with it. I did manage to swallow the 2 pills (they are NOT large) and I drank all of solution. It took me about 1hr maybe 1 hr 15 min. It all came out fine. LOL It was my 3rd colonoscopy but the first one banded. My band dr said if I could drink it at my own pace and my gastro was fine with it he was fine with it.

The solution is gross tasting no matter what flavor you add but I managed to get over that by sticking a piece of orbit in my mouth after every drink. I went through a whole pack of gum. LOL

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
