I think I probably first had sushi 2 months out. If you're doing sashimi (sushi fish with no rice) you might be able to do it sooner--don't force it down if it doesn't feel right though. Just gotta be careful because a lot of Americanized rolls have a ton of extra ingredients in them that load on calories, sashimi will be your best bet until you can stomach rice (may be a few months, I'm just now at 6 months getting to the point where it doesn't hurt to eat rice) and then when you can have rice you'll want to stick to simple rolls with only 2 or 3 ingredients.

Congratulations on surgery!

I had sushi last week (2 months) and I had no problems at all, miso Soup is really great.

What does your doctor/nut say? They're the best ones to ask.

As others have mentioned, probably sashimi (raw fish) is a better bet than sushi (rice + whatever) since I doubt very much that rice is on your meal plan this early out. A lot of people on these boards have a real problem with rice, even months (or longer) after their surgery.

I had at 3 or 4 weeks out rolls made with smoked salmon, cream cheese and avocado, no rice. No issues. Although it was totally weird just eating one order when I used to eat 4 or 5! But it was all I could eat! Amazing.

I had sashimi at about 4 weeks. I'm a full year out and still find sushi rice is not my friend. It expands a lot once in the stomach and puts a quick end to a good meal. I love a sushi place that does a version of palapala. That's tuna and avocado chunks in a rice wine vinegar sauce (usually served as an appetizer.) The amount is meal sized for a sleever, and there is no rice to bog down a great tasting Protein source!!

Rice tends to swell in the sleeve so it really depends on whether you can tolerate it. I recommend eating very very slowly and in very small quantities.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
