You are correct no really good GI's will do lap band anymore they will refer you out to some GI doctor that knows how dangerous it is and the long term complications just to rake in the bucks! Anyone considering getting one should look up lawsuits for lap bands before they ever do it, and another thing is no one gets second opinions on this surgery they are just so happy and think it's the least invasive they jump..I know I did!
Good luck!

I disagree. I had a lap band placed in October and went through a bariatric center of excellence. My doctor serves on a national bariatric board. It is an FDA approved procedure and improvement has been made to the surgery to prevent slippage.

Some physicians don't perform because they don't want to mess with fills and maintenance.

I'm doing great with my band.

Treadmill
I am not trying to offend just sharing my experience. I too had a board certified doctor she was wonderful to me and had a great bed side manor. When I was one, two and three years out I was fine and loving my band. But I have never heard of a lapband procedure that is guaranteed no slippage..never, but if they are doing that now that's wonderful.
But over 50 percent of people will go onto have some type of complications, it's written in any board certified lapband literature that has been written since 2010.
I pray you never have or go though the complications that I and so many others on this site have had and wish you much success!

Improvements have been made to prevent slippage, but there is no guarantee. My band was placed and my stomach pulled gently up and sown around my band. I've only had two fills, both while using a fluoroscope. I have 5.5 cc in a 10 cc band and I'm in my sweet spot. I'm losing 10 pounds a month. I feel great, and don't see the doctor again until my 1 year anniversary.

Licensed, skilled, US bariatric physicians are still placing the band. Yes, not every physician, but many.

I know several people, including many on this site, who have the band and have done well.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
