How long was your process?

Recommended Posts

How long was the whole process for you from start to finish. I started in November and haven't received a date, they haven't sent paperwork to insurance or anything yet. Had my last nutrition appointment yesterday.

I had two insurance/doctor office screw-ups/delays, but barring those, 10 months initial information session to surgery with all the BS appointments, CPAP stuff, lab work done, NUT appointments, surgeon appointments, psych eval.

It depends on your surgeon and your insurance.

All your doctors have to approve the surgery, not just the Bariatric Surgeon. I have to have an approval from my MD, my Psychiatrist and my nutritionist they want to make sure you are medically and emotionally stable enough to have this surgery. This is a very big deal when it comes to learning how to eat over again. The surgery is of course uncomfortable but being able to handle all the extra stuff to go with it is very important. Call your Bariatric Center and ask questions or make an appointment to go in for a consultation to find out what is next and ask them what's going on. I hope this helps. You'll be on your way soon.

I was covered under medicaid/ health first. I started Nov 1, 2015. I was originally supposed to go in for surgery July 25. But because i was ill informed, had to rush to get a last minute sleep study and my surgery got delayed to Oct 5th. My surgery was on a Wednesday. Everything was sent to insurance the Friday before and i had the approval that Monday 2 days before my surgery. Cutting it close much? lol

My process started in September of 2015. I was ready to submit in February 2016 (4 month diet, psych visit, medical records, and all other documentation needed). I did not submit for insurance until June of 2016 - I wasn't ready mentally. Once the doctor submitted I was approved in less than 10 days and had my surgery on August 23, 2016.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
