I am 7 weeks post op and cannot eat. I have no desire for food. I cook for my spouse and feel sick every time. I can hardly drink Protein drinks, I force them down. I get a feeling of being hungry then it passes.

Last week I was very sick, the ER doctor said it was food poisoning, from where I wondered because I don't eat. I think it was the flu. He put me on an antibiotic and it worked. I my surgeon's office and they agreed for me to take the meds. After that whole debacle I'm more turned off by food.

The plus side is I've lost 55 lbs in 7 weeks the down side is I'm losing hair like crazy and I am a raging bitch. I want to think that I can do this alone but I can't and I'm an emotional wreck but I'm hiding it well because I don't want anyone to know.

I need pointers on what I can eat that's easy to get down and what I can do about these emotions.

Since you were recently on antibiotics, it is important to take Probiotics after you finish the antibiotics. Antibiotics destroy not only the bad bacteria but also the good bacteria in your gut. Probiotics helps you reestablish these colonies of good gut bacteria.

Transitioning to solid food such as steaks can be rough. I found it easier to consume softer foods such as chili and Soups. I have put some recipes at the end of the following article.

Your hair loss can come from you being malnourished If you're not eating enough. I've heard the Hair loss will happen with many bariatric patients anyway but making sure your getting adequate nutrition is key too. But congrats on your weightloss and I hope you get an appetite back soon! Hang in there!

I agree with everyone so far. I was extremely nauseous around the same time you are. I couldn't eat and everything smelled bad and made me get sick. It was an awful time for me. I sipped on Isopure drinks during the day to get the Protein in and ate what my body could tolerate. I bugged the hell out of my NUT and she assured me that time and healing would help and that when I saw her at 6 month post-op visit, I would be a different person. For me, it happened overnight and suddenly I was able to eat and not be sick anymore. I feel great now! My advise is only to do what you can, listen to your body and this too shall pass...you are doing great!

It's hard to fathom right now, but that feeling of hunger, and things tasting good AND going down easily comes back. You need to find something chock full of Protein that you can tolerate though. 7 weeks isn't very far out, and at that time I got most of my protein from shakes. Have you tried the Premier Protein shakes. I couldn't do the ones that the NUT wanted me drinking, but those I could tolerate. Also, try googling eggfaces baked ricotta. Cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese (softer), hummus (I lived on that!)... these were all easy for me to eat. Keep in mind though, back then, I did good to get 1 ounce, let alone the 3 ounces or 1/4c my NUT suggested.

Keep sipping Water, and keep trying out things to find what goes down easiest right now.

Steak, chicken, and other dense Proteins will come in time.

Isopure also makes protein mixes that go in water and taste more like flavored water (kinda) than the milky ones, that's also an option as so many find themselves lactose intolerant for a few months (usually not permanently)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
