Pain on right side?

Recommended Posts

:help: Hi! I have been having severe pain on my right side ever since my surgery. My scars are all on my left side so I don't think the surgery caused it. I have had numerous tests done with my regular doctor and they have ruled out kidney stones, and appendix. (said it was too high for that) I don't have my gall bladder, it was removed in 1991. The pain is a sharp stabbing pain located right under my rib cage on the left side. Has anyone else experienced this? I have been on vicodin every 4 hours round the clock. I have had no other pain at all regarding my surgery so I don't have any idea what is going on??? :omg:Any help would be great!

I understand that no one could diagnosis it, I wasn't asking for that. I was asking if anyone else has had this happen since their surgery, or if it is totally unrelated, which it very well could be. I wasn't really asking for someone to diagnosis me on what I have, but thanks for your response anyways.:)

Hi Missy,

I've been having the exact same pain. I had my surgery about 2 months ago, and just in the last couple of days, I've been having a sharp pain on my left side (my port is on my right side) just below my ribcage. I've also been having a lot of pain in my left shoulder. It seems to be come on after I eat. I haven't called my doc. yet, but I, too, am wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Weird!

Liz

Alex10, I'm not a Dr. but that sounds either like your gallbladder or you may have Acid Reflux. Missy, I am 5 weeks post op today and to be honest I've had all kinds of funny feelings here and there on the left and right side and even my bottom . They come and go and my doctor said yesterday that is normal healing sensations.

My port is under my ribcage so I am still really sore especially when I get a fill. Your body generally takes 6months to a year to recover from a surgery. And everyone heals differently.

Your port is on your right side??? I have never heard of that! Mine is on my left side and the pain I am having is on my right. I thought it was kidney stones. I have had those in the past and it felt exacly the same. I went to my Doc and she ran a CAT scan as well as a few more tests. All came back fine, they said I was normal. I had my gall bladder out years ago, so I can rule that out.

I haven't had much port pain at all but the pain on my right side has been much more uncomfortable than my left by far! It has started getting better, but still feel it when I move at times. Hopefully will go away once other things start healing in there!

I'm wondering if you could be having gas pains. Gas does weird things, and I know I experienced something similar to what you are describing.

Just a thought.

OK, now I'm surprised. Is that true, everyone? Is the port always on the left side? Mine is definitely on my right side and the pain I feel is on my left side.

Doctors have their own pet places for putting ports. Some on the left, some center, some right, one idiot even puts it up by the collar bone.

By the collar bone thats a new one.... mine is on the left side...

Sometimes i find i get this completely random sharp pain my port... im convinced im just hallucinating but then a again hallucinatng is seeing things... whats the word for feeling things that aren't there... lol:guess

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
