Hi Guys

I am two weeks post op now... Gotta say I have adapted to the whole liquid diet a lot better than I thought I would. went on to mushy foods on Monday, kept the liquids going through the day and had mushy food in the evening.

The first night i had a scoop of mash and a bit of cod with parsley sauce - this went down fine. I had the same on tuesday night but felt a bit uncomfortable afterwards. Had some scrambled egg with a few Beans on Wed and again felt a bit uncomfortable. Last night I managed some cottage pie and felt better than the few nights before.

today I have had some weetabix this morning and a yoghurt at lunch but I am having some pains in the middle of my breasts above the rib cage.... Is this wind? or am i eating too much? Not eating it slowly enough? Any suggestions would be really helpful. I am trying my hardest to eat slowly and based on what I have had today its not like i have eaten a lot?

Good to hear all of your sucess stories...!!

11lb lighter now in 2 weeks so i must be doing something right I suppose??!!!

Sheree xxx

Sheree, maybe its the potatoe hunny, sometimes I find that I cant eat mash at all.

As long as you're chewing for England it cant be that, it could be that you're eating too fast like you suggest, try slowing down a bit and see if it helps. It is a learning curve, and each one of us is different.

Hi Guys

Well 2 weeks now since my 4th fill and I have gained 3 lbs - how is that even possible!!

I am so fed up with this band, I am eating 3 meals per day - no Snacks, drinking plenty of fluids - but still managed to gain 3 lbs

Has anyone else experienced this. I am totally fed up and wished now I had went for the bypass operation instead cos right now this band feels like a total waste of money

K

Scooby, how much have you got in, in total now?

Like we say everyone is different, maybe you need a bit more in. If it were me I would mail your fill person and tell them how things are.

I do hope it improves for you, and dont lose heart hunny.

I know its difficult but if you stay on liquids for a few days your band should tighten all by itself. Try it if you can tolerate it and see what happens.

Hi Freckles

I now have 7ml in a 7ml band, Dr Chris did a full empty and refill the last time just to check everything was ok.

Its probably my own fault for sticking to mushies too long, gonna try normal meals this week but smaller amounts and see how I go

Been away hill walking for 4 hours today and going again tomorrow and then gonna do at least 30 mins every night on x-trainer and see if that all helps

Its so disheartening when you jump on the scales and expect to have lost only to have gained........

Just needed a good moan

K xx

Ahh poor you, you are so good doing all that exercise, maybe you're building muscle, and you know muscle is heavier than fat dont you?

That could be your answer. Dont work out so much , and dont go hill walking for a week and see what happens.

Good luck sweetie

Hi. I managed an hour gentle cycling in the gym. Didn't lose weight and ate more too. Looking forward to mushy on Wednesday.

Well done hunny, you are good. So how long is the mushy period for?

My xmas present to myself is gonna be a de-fill of 3mls, then I can enjoy xmas, I think that it will do me good to have a rest and then start again in the new Year.

I know I'll put on some weight, but also that it will come off again, ready for the summer. This band is so versatile I love it.

Jane, does this quite often, she was telling me, but i had decided to do the xmas de-fill anyway. But she is living proof that it does work, after all she has lost 9 stone!!!!

Hope you dont mind me spouting about you jane sweetie xxx

Hi All,

I know how Scooby feels, I had my band fitted in Feb 2010, I have a 7 ml band and am at 6.75 ml and I have only lost 8 kg and I can hardly swallow anything not mushie. I am fed up with this. It was supposed to be a new start for me and to help me but I am sick at least 5 times a day. I was just sick now having Water.

I swim and walk 6 days a week and nothing much is happening. I am now going on holiday and am wondering about a de-fill a) for the flight as I have heard it can hurt and :smile2: so I can enjoy plenty of fish.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

JB

Morning everyone. I hope everyone had a good weekend. To all the people having a few problems I hope they are sorting themselves out. These bands seem to work differently for everyone. The seems to be no rhyme or reason sometimes. I've had more restriction with less in the band, some days I can eat certain things, other days not.

Until yesterday I had 7.25ml in a 7-9ml band. I had restriction but not great. I could eat steak, fresh bread, pretty much anything! But the acid indigestion at night was killing me. So yesterday I went for a defill yesterday as I just couldn't live with the acid. I was being sick quite a bit and that's just not good for me or the band!! I had a really good chat with the nurse and we agreed to go for a 'good' defill and my symptoms could cause band erosion if left. So I had 2.5ml out taking me down to 4.75ml in a 7-9ml band. I'm going to leave it at least 6 weeks before having some put back in. Maybe after Christmas if I haven't put on too much weight. I've just got to try and be good and avoid crisps, biscuits etc which go down way to easily!!

That's a nice idea Freckles having a defill for Christmas. U'll be able to indulge a bit!

If anyone is interested WLS Group are now doing a Manchester clinic for aftercare. I can highly recommend them. I particularly like the packages they offer, £345 (I think) for unlimited fills for 6 months (sometimes they do a special offer for £275). I believe the clinic is in the centre around Deansgate.

Jersey Bean did you read what I wrote to Scooby about the exercising?

Maybe you are losing inches and not pounds, with all the exercise you're doing?

I did go through a stage when I just wasnt losing and wasnt eating much. That is so dis-heartening, I hated it and thought the same as you two did, that this band wasnt working for me.

Can I just say what I do eat is minimal, I dont even eat a 3rd of a cup of food, (simply because I cant, it wont go down and if I do eat more then I vomit) but I do try to nibble a bit through the day, not always, but sometimes, that would be like a packet of quavers or a handful of peanuts. :)

Hi Sammy, hope you lose the reflux, babe, its horrible.

Thats great info about WLS, I'll pass it on to my daughter, she works in Manchester.

I've only got 6.5mls in my band which holds between 9 and 11, weird cos my restriction is good.

Good luck girlies in all that you do.:)

That'd be handy for your daughter Freckles if she works in Manchester. I'm not sure what day they are there but I'm sure they'll tell her if she phones up.

I know this is a Dr Chris thread but I was wondering if anyone had heard anything about The Hospital Group. Someone I know is considering a band but wants to stay in UK and was interested in them. I've passed on WLS Group details to her as I can highly recommend them.

Thanks peeps.

Btw - I'm very hungry today!! Eeeek! I'm cooking loads of veg for dinner. It's got to be done. I don't want to put weight on. I'll really have to try and stay in control, easier said than done!!!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
