Anyone know of Dr De Bruyne Chris

Recommended Posts

Hi All:sad:

I wonder if there is anybody out there that doesn't feel positive at the moment. I don't want to put worries in the minds of new bandsters but need some advice from others that have felt like me or feeling like me.

I am feeling disillusioned and I am reading all the positive comments on this site and not relating to them at all at the moment.

I think I must be niave. I believed that having this band would end all my problems with food. I had my band on the 6th June, the first few weeks I hardly ate anything and lost a stone in weight. All good. For the last two weeks I have wanted to eat everything and all the time. I seem to be able to consume the same amount of food that I did before. I gained 2 lb in weight last week. I feel ashamed of myself and need to get a grip. I know that has to come from me and nobody else can help with that.

I am a terrible comfort eater. I know why this is but feel I don't want to share my reasons with the whole of LAP-BAND®®.com at the moment.

Please could somebody answer the following questions:

Is it true that your first fill doesn't have much of a effect, that you need a couple before it will work?

Can you request and pay for a double fill?

I was banded by Dr Chris and going to Newport for my first fill on the 23rd of this month? What do they do when you go, do they give you the fill and send you on your way or do they talk to you about how you are feeling and give you much advice?

Has anybody else backed this up with some type of therapy? And if so, did it help?

I have eaten everything I ate before except fresh bread. Everything goes down okay and stays there but some things give me back the pain I had in my shoulder for the first few weeks? Is this a coincidence or do you think that this is my body telling me that this food does not suit me anymore?

Any advice would be great. I have bought a few books but to be honest they havent been very good.

Thanks in advance

Hi

I can completely understand how you are feeling, if you do some research on internet its commonly called "BANDSTER HELL" - that stage where we think it has failed.

I had my band done in March, missed my first fill because of ash cloud and have now had 2 fills = 5.25 mls and still have virtually no restriction however I have lost almost 2 stones = 1/2 stone per month, which I am happy with and know that once I hit the right fill level, the weight will start to come off

Exercise is also key and although the weight loss has not been huge I am losing inches and my body shape is changing

Hang in there and it will fall into place eventually

Kerry xx

hi all

Sorry to say ive not been on the site as much as before, but i can still see its a massive support to all new and old, i would just like to say hi to all you new guys and wish you all the best, i am 19 months post op and i am still learnig, every day can be different, so please do not get disheartened, trust me it will come. If someone said to me on the operating table that 19 months from now i would still not be at my target i would of got up and ran. time passes so fast and i wasnt without my problems at the begining (ie port issue) so i had to get re opereted on in august last year so i suppose im really only 11 monts on but i am delighted with the results and now that i am at a comfortable weight i dont really worry any more on when i reach my target as i know i will. I have lost 9.5 stone and have my name down to do the glasgow half marathon in september.

PLease do not think i posted this to blow smoke up my own arse as its not, its for all you guys at the begininng of you joureny and just some thoughts for you that you will achieve your goals, it aint easy but you will do it if you work with your band.

If anyone needs any questions answered i am always willing to help if i know the answer.

Hi Gary - you have done soooooo well and you really should be proud of yourself. You have changed your way of life and it's really paying off now!!

I too haven't been on here for ages with one thing and another but I'm going to try and get on here more often. Easier said that done with 2 children under the age of two and a husband that is away for up to 2 months at a time!!

Well it's about 16 months since I was banded and I've lost well over 5 stone now. I'm pretty pleased as I've had a baby since the op! I only really put on baby weight and am now over 2 stone lighter than before I was pregnant. I seem to have had that many defills and fills but feel I am back on track now and learning to live with my band more.

I'm really starting to notice the difference in my size now and love finding new clothes in my wardrobe that I forgot I had cos I haven't worn them for so long!!

Jayne - don't worry you will start to feel more positive when you have had a few fills and your band starts earning it's money! I took 3 fills to get restriction and then the weight loss really started. Hang on in there! x

Hi Gary and Freckles, and all you newbies, its great hearing all your news. WOW gary you have done amazing 9 and a half stone you must be so please that you took that step on Fri 13th. SORRY i have'nt kept intouch but I've only just got back after a six week holls.

My weight is still static, but I'm quite happy at this level, even if it is higher than I first would have expected. I'm still having issues with night cough and reflux so its better for me not to have the band any tighter.

Hi Mmm - I'm sorry to hear about the reflux issue. I had a tummy bug (no vomiting thankfully) a few weeks ago and developed night-time acid reflux even though I could eat a reasonable amount. Because I could eat a reasonable amount I decided to have a very small fill today (0.25ml) as I won't be able to get to clinic for a couple of months. I hope I've not made the wrong decision. I thought that because I could eat quite a bit the tightness of the band wasn't causing the reflux. My doc has put me on the same tab's as you but I've only been taking them a week so haven't really had chance for them to work. I'll just see how it goes.

I'm at 8.50ml in a 7-9ml band but it doesn't feel tight at all - hopefully perfect after this small fill.

Fingers crossed the tablets work and the reflux sorts itself out! How long did you have it for before having a defill?

I'm glad you are happy at the weight level you are at. I'm getting there..................!

Hi bandsters

It seems as if most are doing well getting a little more worried as the 27 draws closer but finding comfort in all those that write in.

For those that have been banded there lots of talk about food can you drink as much as want or is this also restricted.

Elizabeth hope the responses have helped it must be theworst feeling after speeding so much money and going through surgery to feel it hasnt worked this is one of my fears.

I hope it works for you keep writing in

Hi Sammy, just like you I can eat loads (full potion sizes) so the band is filled to a level which gives very little restriction, but I still get the reflux, I'm still please that I had the band fitted because I no longer go on eating binges, and rarly feel hungry, I'm just greedy, and eat load of choc and sweets, no doubt IF I could get myself motivated to eat only healthy low calorie foods I would restart my weight loss

My restriction before fill was actually not bad, I just wanted it to be good but I hope I haven't set myself up for continuous acid reflux. I've had it a couple of times after fills but it's always gone away after a week or two. This seems 0ot be lingering on. I propped myself up a bit with pillows last night and it did seem better.

I know what you mean about choc and sweets. It's the worst thing being able to eat them so easily! I try not to have them in the house but end up eating the buttons I've bought for my little boy sometimes! Ooooooooops!! I'm sure you'll get motivated soon. I just hope the reflux sorts itself out and I don't have to have a defill :grouphug:

Hi All. Haven't been on for a while. Had my second fill on 1st July and now have 5ml in a 10ml band. I have been really struggling since. I managed to drink 2 glasses of Water after I had my fill, but when I got home and had some more water, it seemed to get stuck and the pain in my chest was so bad. I tried yogurt and after 2 spoonfuls, that would get stuck and I had to make myself sick. Hot Soup and drinks go down alright, and now I'm living on really smooth mash potato. I also have to take my time eating, 'cause everything just gets stuck. Can anyone tell me if this is what the restriction feels like?

After 2 weeks I am managing to eat a bit more, but nothing that isn't smooth. I don't know whether to go for another fill in August or get a bit taken out. On the up side, I don't feel hungry and I am definately not eating as much. I just don't want to end up eating aload of junk just because its the only thing that will go down. Please tell me that others have had this problem. In a way it would be great that I am at my restriction, as it would save me a fortune having fills.

Anyway, Good luck to all those going to Belgium in a couple of weeks for their band.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
