Anyone know of Dr De Bruyne Chris

Lovely to see you Maggs, what you like with your 6 week holidays, you are soooo lucky, I am really envious.

I saw Freddyboy yesterday for a 0.25 fill, and it doesnt even seem very tight, yet last year at this point I was like you and having the cough and acid reflux at night.

He told me to see my GP, if it starts again and recommended Mexiam.

Did a BIT of Googling and came up with this....Nexium (Esomeprazole) so maybe thats what they're called in the UK, not sure but hopefully the doc will.

I will most certainly be trying those if GP will prescribe, because its the most nastiest thing when you're trying to sleep.

I'm also the same havent lost anymore weight, in fact had put on a few pounds when he weighed me !!!

If I hadnt had the defill when I went away last year I prolly would be at target now :)

Anyway now to start over...and I have a wedding and a christening in the next few weeks, so gawd help me.

Dont forget your friends here Maggs we miss you hunny xxx

I.ve been on omeprazole at double usual dose from about 6 months now they really help but have'nt cured it enough to get a top up fill, but I would strongly recommend them.

Thanx for that Maggs, maybe try something new then. Different meds suit different people dont they.

But i will try anything if it gets rid. Last night I didnt have any reflux at all, after the little fill.

Hi everyone back from Belgium. It wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be. Hotel was really nice for a budget one and the staff were very nice. The hospital was great all the staff speak very good English. I went on my own I wouldn't recommend it, it was alright till the day after the op and i had to go to the hotel i felt really vulnerable when my son phoned i started crying like a baby, i think its alot to do on your own but i didn't have a choose. Anyway back at home a bit sore where the portal is and i still have the stitches in, but i can't get over the fact that I'm not hungry its GREAT.I have a bit of trapped wind but that's about it. I'd say the worst thing about it all is the barium meal you have when you have the x ray it doesn't taste very nice and the side affect is terrible diarrhoea which lasts at least 3 days. I will keep you posted over the next few days. Oh i would take some dressing with you as they don't supply any when you leave the hospital, oh and the injections aren't too bad they don't hurt but its just a bit hard to stick a needle in yourself so if you can get someone else to do it might be better.

Hi sher the medication is because at one stage I had my band overfilled and it caused night time reflux, I have now have had quite a lot taken out but still sometimes get reflux even though I take omeprazole every evening, the dissadvantage is that I have stopped loosing weight

Hi All:sad:

I wonder if there is anybody out there that doesn't feel positive at the moment. I don't want to put worries in the minds of new bandsters but need some advice from others that have felt like me or feeling like me.

I am feeling disillusioned and I am reading all the positive comments on this site and not relating to them at all at the moment.

I think I must be niave. I believed that having this band would end all my problems with food. I had my band on the 6th June, the first few weeks I hardly ate anything and lost a stone in weight. All good. For the last two weeks I have wanted to eat everything and all the time. I seem to be able to consume the same amount of food that I did before. I gained 2 lb in weight last week. I feel ashamed of myself and need to get a grip. I know that has to come from me and nobody else can help with that.

I am a terrible comfort eater. I know why this is but feel I don't want to share my reasons with the whole of LAP-BAND®.com at the moment.

Please could somebody answer the following questions:

Is it true that your first fill doesn't have much of a effect, that you need a couple before it will work?

Can you request and pay for a double fill?

I was banded by Dr Chris and going to Newport for my first fill on the 23rd of this month? What do they do when you go, do they give you the fill and send you on your way or do they talk to you about how you are feeling and give you much advice?

Has anybody else backed this up with some type of therapy? And if so, did it help?

I have eaten everything I ate before except fresh bread. Everything goes down okay and stays there but some things give me back the pain I had in my shoulder for the first few weeks? Is this a coincidence or do you think that this is my body telling me that this food does not suit me anymore?

Any advice would be great. I have bought a few books but to be honest they havent been very good.

Thanks in advance

You're very welcome Slinky, but its true.

Garry my old friend you have lost another person ...wow.gif

I'm so proud of you, tell us what you eat/drink these days and what quantities if you dont mind.

hey freckles thanks

mmmm what do i eat well theres a question, no two days are the same with my bloody band, last week i could eat loads and even contemplated a wee fill, yet come friday night i could not eat a dam thing, but i can now mentally deal with that and just forget about it.

My average day is a slice of well done toast, it can take me 45 mins to eat but i do it at my desk and just forget about time, if i was to try do it in a rush i just would not bother about toast. i nibble the odd biscuit or wee bit of cake mid morning and lunch il have Soup, or a tuna sandwich on brown again i can work with it to eat the bread allbeit slowly and for t i have been eating salmon just cooked and no more so it flakes along with very smooth mash potato.

I have to admit i do work hard at eating different things as i get bored with the same things, i get away with being a little naughty eating cakes etc as i train 6 days a week, im sure if i cut out the crap id of lost more weight however i am now at the point where i want to loose 2.5 stone more but it will come off when it comes off as i am pretty happy where i am and i loose more inches than weight due to my training. my target is to have lost that last bit by christmas however thenn i will be 17 stone and i hope at that point il be happy and not want to loose anymore as my build i dont think will look right as i have a 48 inch chest and a 40 inch waist so i was never made for speed hahahaha.

what ur feeling is normal and i think everyone went through this, but without being flipant your not giving it much time, unfortunately the band is far from a miracle cure and requires a lot of working with it, i am 17 months post op and still struggle some days trying to understand it. UNfortunately i would guess you will be 3 maybe 4 more fill until it will do what its supposed to, yes every fill you will feel a difference but until you get to that true sweet spot will be some time so your just going to have to content yourself.

Sorry if i am sounding brash but unfortunately you need to try and get your head into eating well and healthy as if you never had a band as when you reach the spot you will be well on the way. When i first met dr chris he insisted that i loose 3 stone in 2 months if i wanted the op, this was for 2 reason, 1 i was over 29 stone and a big risk for anasthetic and 2 that he wanted to test my commitment to the band as i said earleir unfortunately its not a solution to weightloss it is merely a tool to help.

I done it and with male bands they take even more filling so i was i think 4 months before i felt any difference but fortunately my inital weightloss gave me the motivation, i unfortunately had a tubing leak and had to get a second operation in the aug(band insertion was feb) therefore i had to go back to scratch therfore it was oct before i got to proper restriction, now if on the op table he told me it would not work until the oct i would have said f@@k that and not bothered, time passes quickly, please try and get involved with some sort of excercise or even walking as trust me this makes a huge difference and allows me to be naughty and have the wee things that we think we cant on a diet and that has been why i aint failed because i have a little of what i fancy when i want. For example i got an indian curry on fri and as i could hardly eat it i left it and it done me 2 more meals, whereas before that one and a 2nd would have gone, but i was satisfied that i had something that was tast.

Pheww god i am rambling, in summary you have made the right choice as it definately works as long as you see it as a tool and not a solution, it aint easy not by a long shot but persevere, this site is here to help so if your low just extend a hand, i am happy for you to pm me any time, il even give you my mobile number if you want someone to chat to, i am not saying i have all the answers but i would now call myelf a pretty expierienced bandster.

just remember we are iall in the same boat just at different stages.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
