Hi Everyone....got my date for surgery on the 7th August.......Cant wait....apart from having to lose some weight first!!!! But the lovely Garry is going to help with with some info. I'll pm you tomorrow when its quieter here.

I'm going to start on the Kelp for my hair, but in one of the post someone mentioned 'milk thistle' Whats that for!! I've never heard of it.....Someones going to write back and tell me its only for men or something like that and I'm going to look a proper fool. Freckles you'll know all about this milk thistle thingy.

Gillian thanks for the advice, everyone on here has such kind things to say, I will go to the docs and ask for something to give me a boost with the weight loss. I am determined , having some 'last' meals this weekend then going for it from Monday.:scared2:

This thread moves so quickly, its lovely to read about everyones success Congratulations to all you new banders, and all the interesting questions that I wouldnt even think of asking.

I only wish I lived closer to Scotland, so I could come on this night out with Garry. Seems to me like most of us drink vodka, Its gonna be a fantastic night, I cant wait to read all about it. Anyone out there from the west country?

Take care

Jackie xx:smile2:

Hey chick,

The milk thistle tablets are really good for your liver and help to keep it clean of fat!!!! I took them religiously before the op because i didn't really do a preop diet:sneaky:

Cambridge diet is also very good for losing weight quickly!! if you research it online you will find your nearest provider! Also Lighter life is brilliant although very strict and about 60 pounds a week but i lost 13 pounds in my first week on it and 8 pounds in my 2nd week! The net will also give you all the info for it!!!! Let us know how you get on!!!!

Jackie, I did Lighter Life when my first band was working as I wanted a quick fix.

I dont think I had enough restriction, how silly am I ...but if you arent told you dont know.

I wasnt really hungry, just missed the chewing of the food, with it being liquid.< /p>

Why dont you try the pre-op diet of low fat and no alcohol (dont know if you drink or not)

The milk thistle like has been said is to shrink your liver and cleanse it.

I keep forgetting to say to Flirty, my daughter who is in Oz, is a size 12, and she had Lipo on her stomach cos she couldnt get it flat.

She went to Belgium, not Dr Chris though.

I wouldnt recommend it really as she has a flat stomach now but seems to have put weight on around her thighs, weird.

She says the fat moved lol, although we have a piccy of the fat removed, so they did take it out.

I have a friend that also had lipo on her stomach, bum and thighs. I'll ask her if she would recommend it if you want me to. She went to Marbella for hers.

I still cant get much down and I'm starving lol:w00t:

Good Morning everyone its a beautiful sunny sunday morning here in Glasgow!! Glad everyone is doing a bit better than a few days ago. Timeisnow I am also booked for op on the 26th of June. Booked my flights for lunchtime on the 25th from Edinburgh for self and my husband, I thought the 12.15 flight looked the best one so dont have to get up at some mad hour and arriving mid afternoon. I also got free entry to the airport lounge using my royalties card. I was wondering if I arrive in hotel around 3 ish in the afternoon does anyone know if consultation will be in the evening at hotel or will I have it at the hopital the day of the op. Cheers J

Hey homecare,

When you arrive on the 25th the hotel check in is at 4pm but they are very good and will probably let you in earlier!!! frederick did our consultation at 9pm as a group and then came to our individual rooms straight after for the money and any questions we might have!!!!

We had our last supper at 7pm because the restaurant shuts at 10pm and it was pushing it by the time we finished with fred!!!! Once we finished with Fred it was to the bar for a couple of last drinks then bed by 12pm as from then on it will be nil by mouth!!!!

If you need anything else just ask!!!:rolleyes2:

well I've done really well since the op! I was the last into surgery that day and the first out of bed!!! ( there was no way i was weeing in bed with a bed pan!!) Since i have left the hospital i haven't had any painkillers but i wouldn't advise going back to work for at least a week as your wounds are still a bit tender! The more sleep you get post op the better you feel i found!!! I took two and a half weeks of work post op but will probably go back tuesday after back hol as will definatley be ready then!!!

Everyone recovers at different rates chick so you will just have to judge it once you have been banded as your the only one who will know what you can do and your limits!!!!

Hi all,

quite new to this forum but you have all made me feel empowered enough to go ahead and have this done on the 26th June as this is the next available date.

I have done a bit of research but can not see really what the average weight loss is, the clinic say about a stone a month, is that about right?

anyway, wish me luck. I am going to book it all up today!

Hey devonpilgrim,

Good luck today, try and book the campanille hotel as that is where the consultation is!!!

Unless you have booked the package (they put you in the campanille anyway)

About the weight loss everyone is different! I was banded on tuesday and have now lost my first stone!!!!:rolleyes2:

I'll expect it might slow down a bit for me soon but as soon as i am well enough i will be going to the gym to help me on my way!!!!!

They say all your weight should be off in a year!!!

If you have any other queries just let us know!!!!

Great news DevonP...will be here before you know it.

I dont think anyone can say what the weekly average weightloss will be. Everyone is different.

Look at me I was banded for the second time on 26th feb and havent lost any weight cos I gave up smoking and was eating for England before my fills.

I think at last I am over it. Its 12 weeks now, and i can even sit in a room with my Mum smoking her ciggy without wanting one.

Some people drop a stone or two a couple of weeks after surgery.

it then depends on how much restriction you get with your fills.

You may be one of the lucky ones and only need a couple of fills, there again you may be like others and need 6 or more.

But sweetie, you can be sure of one thing, if you have the op and enough fills to give you good restriction you will definitely lose loads of weight.:rolleyes2:

Ok, now its my turn, has anyone experienced this?

I had the fill with freddy boy on thursday and still I cant drink so good, at anytime of the day, mornings being the worst.

I have been up for a couple of hours and usually I have drunk two mugs of coffee by now. But I managed an Actimel and I am sipping Prune juice ( for regularity, seems to have stopped:blink:)

I spose if nothings going in...well I'm not even going there.:rolleyes2:

But my coffee is still sitting on my desk, gone cold.

I thought by now it would have eased a little, but no, I am so tight, never been like this before, has anyone else?

I spose this is what I wanted from day one, I'm not complaining, just amazed!!!

Hi Freckles

I can only sip liquids, no gulps...it takes me two attempts to drink a cup of tea in the morning. As long as you can drink small sips throughout the day you should be fine. Are still on liquids after your fill, can you eat anything?

i would have a bath but not too full so your stitches get wet, stay on liquids for at least a week. dont try scrambled egg for a while as alot of people with bands have trouble with them (including me.) I took the socks off after 3 days but they were driving me crazy.

What kinds of liquids are you having?

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
