Already sleeved question

Recommended Posts

I only had that once before surgery and once after surgery. I told people that it is not a decision that I took lightly and that I am doing this for my health. I am now almost 2 years out and down 178 pounds. The people close to me know how I monitor my food and know how religious I am about working out. The funny is the person that said something to me was trying to lose weight and lost about 80 pounds, but has since gained 40 of it back.

Everyone who watched me go through this process pre-op and post-op knows there hasn't been anything EASY about this process.

Yeah, I think this question says more about the asker's feeling about themselves than anything else. I'm betting you don't hear it from people who haven't struggled yo-yo dieting. I mean, unless they are assholes.

WLS is exactly that a tool, we go through six months of learning with a nutritionist on how to learn proper eating. I have lost and gained the same 40 or so pounds for the past ten years and I just decided I needed medical intervention. I'm a perfect candidate and I'm very healthy body wise, so I decided I needed some help . Do your research and read everything you can so that when you make your decision it will be the right one for you and you alone. Just let the negativity go, it will pass.

I hate that there is such a negative stigma around WLS. Before I had surgery I had so many people tell me it was the "easy way out." Yeah, WLS CAN help you lose weight, but it's the dedication of the patient that leads to long term success. I used to tell people "If you think eating 500 - 1000 calories per day for the REST OF YOUR LIFE is easy? Let's see YOU do it without medical assistance!"

Now...I just let my results shut their mouths. Stay strong and do what's right for you!

When you talk about getting sleeved and people say it's the easy way out what is your response? I have had sad comments made about me embarking on this new journey

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
