Getting sleeved in June

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone I'm new here I'm 37 years old and getting the surgery in June . I was wondering if there's anything I should be doing NOW to prepare for the surgery should I try to get toned to avoid excess skin? Should I try and lose weight? I just feel like I should be doing something

Thanks

I'm in the same arena as you. I'm doing weights. Not really caring about my diet too much now as I tend to watch it the best I can anyway. Closer to the pre op, I'll work on not drinking anything while eating. I think that'll be one of the hardest things to do for me.

You could start working on putting Protein first with meals and eating protein-only Snacks. You can also start working on getting into an exercise routine. And as @@Newme17 said, try to stop eating and drinking at the same time. It's hard!

I was reading up on skin, different pigmentations, sun damaged or not, smoker or not, elasticity/collagen, etc all plays a role in how each body will respond. Whether it bounces back or not, etc. my surgeon told me it all really depends on how much excess weight (or how far your skin stretched) of how much skin you'll have left, but usually there's always something.

Yes I agree with the drinking part I am also trying to quit drinking soda @@JamieLogical

What got me to stop cold turkey was when I learned of the flame retardant chemicals in some sodas. Grossed me out thinking I was drinking that stuff. Haven't had any since.

Some companies removed it. But there are still sodas with it and the chemical isn't banned here in the US as it is in other countries. It's called Brominated Vegetable Oil patented as flame retardant. Stuff is used in plastics. Blah

It looks like I'm getting sleeved in June as well. My nutritionist has me on an eating plan where I eat 5-6 meals a day with each meal not being over 10g of fat and 10g of sugar and at least 10-12g of Protein.

Did she advise about exercising??

We were told to start exercising, weight training and walking. I've been wanting to start weight training, but need to go through PT for my shoulder. We were givenough free Virgin Pulse pedometers at work and can earn up to $500 a year for completing steps, so that's a definite bonus!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
