Hi everyone. I am getting banded on Sept 25. I am self pay so process went very quickly. From initial consult to surgery will be only 4 weeks. I am 53 and tired of trying everything to lose weight. My BMI is 43.

Hi,

I was banded on 9/19/07 and today I feel pretty good. I am almost 52 and am tired of all the diets and failures. You will be banded on my birthday!

Hi Fatnomore, I have just started looking into Lapband. I was wondering if a self pay would make things go faster. I agree on being tired of dieting and losing only to regain the weight somewhere down the road. My last loss of 69 pounds on Atkins is just about all gained back. I am so tired of the process of losing only to regain the weight. My husband is backing me up but he does say he feels like this is a "cop out" and "the easy way". I try explaining that I have lost and gained weight so many times that I am sick of it. He has never gone on a diet so he doesn't know the frustrations I've been through. Now that I am gulp 60 years old, (wow that was hard to admit) I just want to be healthy and I know it's just a matter of time before the weight will cause me to be sick. I wish you and all the others the best and I will continue to check into this procedure.

Kathy

Please let me know how it goes. I'm 54, BMI of 49, and have a consult Oct. 4. I'm hoping things will go smoothly and I can have this done over Christmas. I look forward to hearing how your procedure goes.

Thanks everyone for your support. My husband is pretty supportive but worried. I will probably be more nervous on Monday but right now I feel pretty good. I tried last year to have my insurance pay but they said no way and it

has taken me a year to save up the money. So had to start over from the beginning but now I'm almost there and looking forward to a new beginning. Let everyone know how it goes. Will be back home on the 26th.

Sheila.

Hi Fatnomore

I hope everything went well for you. I can understand about how you are feeling as I was banded on the 24th so just a day ahead. I was fine up to the day and then was just really nervous but all went well and I am at home and feel fine. Hope you will be doing the same. Let us know how you are going

Hi Kathy

I am glad that your husband is backing you up but maybe if he reads some of the chats or blogs by people who have been banded he will see that it is not "a cop out" or "easy way out". :peep: In all my reading of late that is something I have discovered.

I am 52 and like you have had years of frustration with diets. I can't tell you how well it works as I am just starting and it may sound strange but I feel so much more confident in that I know I can do this and this band that is with in me is not the answer it is a means to help me get there. I am aware that I am still going to have to work at it , watch what I eat , do the exercise etc but I believe I can permanetly make those changes.:dance:

Good luck and keep us posted

Jane

Hello all

I got my band on Aug 28 - best money I ever spent on myself - process was much easier than trying to deal with an insurance company that thought it was cosmetic surgery

Have lost about 20 or so pounds since surgery - went for first followup last wed - I declined a fill because I am happy with the weight loss and I'm not getting extremely hungry between meals - I want to do as much of this on my own with my new tool as possible

So if you can dig up the funds - pay yourself and save alot of time and heartache - and be on the road to being the person you want to be much sooner:rolleyes:

I am self pay and i agree the process def went a lot quicker. My time was just 2 weeks. I do wish that i had been more prepared.I think the consult with the Nutrionist and the Counselor is a good ideal no matter what payment type. I think the Great thing about this site is that although we are all surrounded by people who dont get it. Thank God we have a place to go to where people do. Good luck, i'm just 10 days out and i feel better already!1

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
