Vomiting every time i lie down

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Just had my sleeve done 8 days ago. I've improved a lot, manage to drink a lot and try to eat whenever i can but i find it a struggle with the time it takes to eat, the long wait to drink and the amount of time it takes to drink a glass of Water.

The main issue is that I am vomiting A LOT. The vomiting starts the second i lie down and try to sleep, no Matter the time of the day. I immediately vomit, most of the times is a lot of acid. Have been trying now with pepcid, helped a bit but still very annoying this feeling.

I am for 5 nights now sleeping max 3 hours per night, super afraid of lying down even though i am exhausted, feel like a zombie. Any one had issues like this?

That sounds like me when I had gerd.... Not so nice and dangerous to your esophagus. Two things that can help you, first contact your Dr. and let him/her know. There is meds you can take to reduce the acid in your stomach. Second thing to do... elevate the top portion of your body were it is not laying flat. They have raised pillows you can purchase also check out Amazon so you can see them or purchase it. Don't delay your esophagus is in danger. Be safe

Thanks for the tips. My doctor gave me nausea pills and Pepcid. With pepcid is a bit better but still vomiting a lot. Tried different positions, using all the pillows i can find to sleep in a sitting position but no luck. Just wondered if someone was as unlucky as me

Is there something stronger than Pepcid he can give you? Are your anti-nausea pills dissolvable under the tongue?

I used 9 pillows for 10 weeks post op. I formed a big pillow wedge and kept myself at a really high up angle. I slept great too. But that's a lot of vomiting. when was the last time you talked to your doctor about that?

Gerd is something most sleevers get after surgery. Yours however sounds a little severe. I had it before surgery and was blessed enough to wake from surgery without it. There are stronger presciptions out there. If nothing changes for you. Re- visit convo with your Dr. It may be something else. Either way that acid will eat at your esophagus causing damage leading to other serious problems. Don't stop until you get your Dr. attention and he gives you something to keep that acid in your stomach.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
