So hard to eat enough calories!

Recommended Posts

I finally started tracking my calorie and Protein intake and am under 500 calories a day. I'm ok on potion about 50-60 but I'm worried about the calories. I'm in phase 2 right now and hopefully tomorrow I will get the green light to go on solids. But I don't see how I can eat more then what I am as it is... Any suggestions?

I remember not getting in enough calories too. I actually stopped losing weight and my nutritionist told me that I wasn't getting enough calories. I was getting in 450-550 a day. She told me I needed to up my calories to at least 600 a day.

Like you, I couldn't fit any more food in my diet. So by suggestion of someone here on BP, I started using my unflavored Protein powder in my drinks, and I even added some extra Protein and calories with my Premier Protein shakes. It gave me that 100-150 calories extra a day to bring my calories up to 600 or a little above.

As a result, I started losing weight again. Slowly, but surely.

Than you are on the correct path. We are told to not worry about Calories at this point, purely just getting in your Protein and Water. I was getting between 300 and 500 per day for the first month or two. It's Protein that counts. Protein helps us recover and heal, calories we have plenty of in our stored fat.

Don't focus on calories, just on Proteins.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
