MyFitnessPal doesn't like how much I eat

Recommended Posts

It won't let me end my day, says I need to eat more. Is there any place in the settings that I'm not finding where I can indicate I had surgery, this isn't a mistake, etc? It wants me to have 1000-1200 calories a day at least. Well seeing as I'm not quite a month out from surgery that just isn't happening.

It's a glitch for us. I hope they can find a way to set it for bariatric patients

Drat. Guess I'll have to deal with it for now. It would be nice if the counters could understand about bariatric patients.

I don't know about the app, I use the website. It has an option to Complete This Entry when I'm done entering my food for the day. When I click it to end my day it tells me I'm not eating enough, need more calories, am I sure I want to end, etc. It won't make a journal entry unless I add more food.

I thought I was the only one having this problem. I havent had surgery yet but I'm on a journey to loose 20 lbs to be approved for surgery. Doctor says to shrink my liver. I downloaded the app Monday and have had the same encounter. I have been sticking to 700 ish calories a day and I have the same problem. It says it wants me to eat 1770 calories a day. I'm nowhere near that. I found that I am able to just go on to the next day and progress from days before is automatically saved every 24 hour period. It would be such an awesome to have some sort of a bariatric feature on the app. Anyway, good luck.

It's been years since I've used the site on my comp. Just started using the app like 2 weeks ago and that hasn't been A problem. Sounds really annoying. A baratric option would be great. I find myself wishing for one on mfp and spark people.

If you want to click the complete button and not get that nasty message, there are a couple of tricks you can use to avoid it. First, you have to set your daily calorie goal higher than you normally would (or you'll get the message in red that you went over your daily calories, which is also annoying). So, set your daily calories to something like 1100 or 1200.

Record your food each day as normal. Say you end the day at 850 calories. Before you click complete, you can either:

1) Add food --> search in food database for 100 calorie block --> add in two of the "generic 100 calorie blocks" --> this will bring your daily calorie total up to 1050 --> click complete and you'll avoid the annoying message about starvation and not eating enough.

2) In your food diary, click Quick Tools --> Quick Add Calories --> Add 200 calories to your journal --> close your journal for the day.

After you use the generic 100 calorie blocks for the first time it will show up in your recent foods and you won't have to search for it anymore. That's my method for bringing calories over 1000 for the day but Quick Add works too.

I grumbled about this a while ago. The funny thing is, apparently every now and then I eat enough that it thinks I'm okay for the day. But most days I get the finger wagging "you're not eating enough!" Maybe if we organized a write in campaign, they would create a Bariatric solution.

I tried Baritastic, but it was very cumbersome and frustrating, so I just put up with the warnings. I thought about Bufflehead's idea of fooling it, but then I wondered about the accuracy. So I just use it to keep track for the day itself. I never was much of a record keeper.

@@LittleBill they've heard it all from bariatric patients. It's in their FAQ. They know that some people, including WLS patients, are under doctor's supervision and are cleared to eat VLCD, but they will not change their program. It's not worth anyone's time to bug them about it.

They aren't going to change it for the minority of users, they don't care. Their premium prices are high enough they should care.

I use LoseIt premium to track. I never end my days, I don't see the point. I know when I'm done eating. I did end a day with less than 1200 calories to see what would happen and it just popped up a picture saying at least 1200 is best. I normally eat more than 1200 calories a day anyway, so this would not be a normal issue for me.

Honestly I think a lot of Bariatric patients need the reminder to strive to hit 1200 calories so this the reminder is a good goal.

Does MFP let you customize more with premI'm? Every time I have used it so much if the food entries are wrong, I have trashed it. The food in LoseIt even the user entries are far more accurate.

What a surprise. Thanks. You saved me some time.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
