No psych eval?

So, I went to my surgeon to discuss surgery. I have all my appts and scripts for gallbladder, blood, etc....but no psych. They told me I didn't need it.

Anyone else not require?

Ps...I am self pay

Consider yourself lucky. I feel like it was just another hoop to jump through so another person could get paid. Would I call that 1 visit productive? NO! Lol waste of time and money. Sent from

  • I'm self-pay. I spoke with my surgeon's office therapist for about 45 minutes, as required by the surgeon, but it was not a psych eval. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  • My insurance required a psych evaluation. I felt kinda stupid because I had already been going to a psychiatrist as well as a weekly therapist. I have major depression and had been seeing them for

I am curious if it is because you are self pay? My insurance is having me do it and I am really concerned, I already see a therapist and take depressions meds... wondering if that is going to keep me from being able to get the sleeve, are they going to say I am unstable because I fight depression, I think part of it is my obesity

I've been on depression and anxiety meds for a number of years. I had also been suicidal a few years ago.

Things have gotten better with therapy and med adjustments and they cleared me for surgery.

Just be open and honest with them. That's all you can do. Good luck! You can do this!

I only had to have one because insurance required it. My surgeon actually told me it was a waste of time in his opinion, but again insurance required it.

Mine was required with my insurance. I had to have 2 visits since a student did mine opposed to an actual psychologist or psychiatrist...whichever one. Nonetheless, I was thankful for them as I have seen some ppl who did not have the psych veal as a part of their process and in my opinion weren't as prepared for the journey following surgery.

I had mine today. It took less than an hour. I think it's just due diligence on their part to make sure you're making this decision of sound mind, have realistic expectations and know you need to change your life to make it work.

Oh, and that you don't hear voices or think people are following you

My psych visit was more of a screening process to ensure I was mentally stable. It took no more than 10 minutes. He offered no counseling and didnt discuss coping mechanisms. Took his payment and wished me goid luck.

My insurance required psych eval. It was a 2 hr appt of interview & completing long questionnaire/survey. Results indicated low self-esteem...Seriously? Tell me something I don't know.

Completed 4 recomended appts and got approval.
