Sleeved 2017, Bypass 2023.. I'm actually terrified this time..
JohnGraySmiley replied to TheRevisionedVagabond's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hey! No problem. You’re more than welcome. Thanks for your well wishes. 🤗 No question is bad, ask away. That’s why we’re here. Support. 🙏🏾 I chose the DS because the sleeve & DS were once one procedure & in some cases, they still are. I figured there’s more “practice” with this one. 😀 Also, my therapist had the full DS switch procedure done & she randomly shared while I was in therapy one night discussing some of my challenges with weight. She’s done well & hers was several years ago. Lastly, I trust my surgeon’s statistics. He performed my sleeve. He’s the head of the bariatric program at the healthcare system he works for. He also teaches there, so his advice helped after he shared what I should expect from bypass or switch. I still have a lot of restriction from my sleeve, so he won’t do anything to my stomach this time around. I’m not sure if this is what some may call a “mini bypass”. Don’t think I’ve heard that term before. I lost 90 lbs from 2016 - 2017 following my sleeve. He told me to expect to lose 50-60lbs with this surgery. In 2016 I asked him how the sleeve would effect my weight insecurities, & if weight would still be an issue. He was very honest and said, “you’ll always have a goal to lose 10 more lbs.” -

I totally understand. Just got my date for Duodenal Switch, after having sleeve surgery 7 years ago. There’s a different type of nervousness, however, you will be well. Praying for safe travels, a safe surgery, safe recovery🥰 -
How did it go? I’m scheduled for panniculectomy on October 1. Really nervous about the pain & afraid I’ll look weirder.

Almost 24 months post-op, 5.5 months pregnant...so far so good!
JohnGraySmiley posted a topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I’m about 3 weeks shy of my 2-year surgiversary. My husband and I are expecting our 2nd child, 1st one after WLS. My surgeon’s goal weight loss was 100 lbs. I lost 90 lbs prior to this pregnancy. I still track my daily intake on MFP and make support group meeting when possible. Prior to this pregnancy I consumed about 150 less calories/day. My OB/GYN says she thinks I can make it through this pregnancy with only a 10lb weight gain. Unfortunately, any amount of weight gain terrifies me[emoji30]. At 18 weeks visit I was up 3 lbs [emoji1430]. Baby is healthy, we are expecting a girl & hoping I can make it with very little weight gain and reach goal weight ASAP after our baby girl is born. more post-op pain than i expected
JohnGraySmiley replied to lizjones's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes! I had way more pain than expected. Had to stay in the hospital an extra day. Took pain meds about 1 week. Felt well enough to go back to work by week 2, but I was still weak and took it easy. I’m two years post-op. -

Strictures 10 month post-op possible?
JohnGraySmiley posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have noticed since yesterday if I eat, things seems to be hung up (cause minor discomfort) in my chest on their way down. I only notice with foods I have to chew. Meats, bananas, trail mix. I haven't had this type of discomfort since closer to my post-op time last year after surgery. Yogurt, scrambled eggs not so much. Is this common at 10 months post-op and is there something I need to do or just call doctor( which i will contact after I finish typing this)?! Thanks -
No psych eval?
JohnGraySmiley replied to mbuczkowski's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was required with my insurance. I had to have 2 visits since a student did mine opposed to an actual psychologist or psychiatrist...whichever one. Nonetheless, I was thankful for them as I have seen some ppl who did not have the psych veal as a part of their process and in my opinion weren't as prepared for the journey following surgery. Insure Nutrition

Thanks, these are the things I like to know before hand. If my insurance is being charged for things I don't need, that worries me. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

How long before you could go back to work? (desk job/non physical)
JohnGraySmiley replied to ella37's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
2-4 weeks recovery for sleeve. Went back to work 13 days post-op....took things slowly. I'm a chemist so we move around a lot! Needed lots of naps for up to 8 weeks post-op. Sent from my SCH-I535 using the BariatricPal App -

Hi All, Has anyone else been given a Bariatric Surgery food "card" to give to your server at restaurants so you'll be able to order smaller portions? I was given one signed by my surgeon at my 3month post-op appt last Monday and I'm wondering how well it has worked for ppl, if at all. Sharee Sent from my Z936L using the BariatricPal App

Started my journey early March by meeting with surgeon & his team. Completed all psych, nutrition, exercise, medical processes by mid April. Surgery was May 10 & as of yesterday I have lost 26% excess body weight, which is 41 lbs. I lost 11 lbs pre-op (10 weeks) and 24-25 lbs post-op. Still learning what foods work. Some meats give me a tough time. My Protein shakes are my new bff Hope everyone else's journey is going well! Sent from my Z936L using the BariatricPal App

The eating and drinking rule
JohnGraySmiley replied to LA_lady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had chicken soup and it typically leaves me uncomfortable. I'm not sure if its because I eat too fast or because I'm eating & drinking at the same time. I'm only 3 months post-op and I had some this past Friday. Maybe it'll work really well for you, but it was not so nice to me. Sent from my Z936L using the BariatricPal App -
Has anyone developed allergies post-op?
JohnGraySmiley posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi All, I'm 10 weeks post-op and this week I literally walked outside 4 days ago and the areas of my skin that were exposed (my face, forearms, and chest) immediately formed tiny itchy bumps. I've had several allergies since childhood and have taken Zyrtec daily once diagnosed. From Googling it sounds like I might have a Sun Allergy which I don't think I have ever heard of before but, I noticed my sun exposed skin started to itch and form tiny bumps again yesterday. Any ideas? Calling my primary care physician on Monday but trying to see if this is normal? Sent from my Z936L using the BariatricPal App -
Need advice - luncheon Sunday - What do I do?
JohnGraySmiley replied to healthier&happier4life's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
