What type of exercise in first month or two?

Recommended Posts

I have just scheduled the last test that I have to do before submitting for insurance approval. I am so excited about getting to this point. But I have a really hard time just walking any distance right now. So I am wondering right after surgery, say first week, third week and then say sixth week, how much exercise have you done? I want to be able to push myself to do more but I just was trying to find out what other folks had experienced. Is walking enough the first month or do I need to get into gym for first month?

I'm two years out from my surgery. I started at 225 and lost 100 pounds. I started walking five to 15 mins everyday for the first month. And kept pushing myself and my limits until I started running which began in third month. I also added strength training and different workout videos to my routine. The key is to start slowly but keep pushing yourself. Find an exercise that you love to do.

Walk.if walking becomes easy now run/walk or walk up hills.but honestly I think just walking is a really good start in the beginning of your weightloss

I started walking right after surgery (they usually have you up and walking the day *of* surgery - but not very far!). By four weeks out I was doing practically everything except weights. I think I had to wait until I was 6-8 weeks out to do weights.

I'm 3 months out and walking 10,000 + steps a day. Walking very early on makes recovery easier. I spent hours walking on my first night after surgery (roommate was a snored so I needed to get out of the room). I swear it made recovery easier. By day 5 I was doing more than 5k steps a day and then it went up from there,.

I started physical therapy at 3 weeks, they have given me my exercise regimen, I do both aquatic workouts as well as dry workouts. I love my recumbent bike when it is too cold to be outside.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
