Pre-surgery jitters

Recommended Posts

I'm about a week and a half out. I'm freaking out. Soooo nervous. I have a band and I want it OUT so it only makes sense to be sleeved at the same time. I'm at my highest weight (minus 15 I've lost since joining my hospitals program). I have zero reason to believe I will "do this on my own" since I've been overweight my entire life and just turned 50. I've tried and tried and failed and failed at that. I lost with the band with great difficulty and gained it back.

My bjggest fear right now is the actual surgery. I hate IVs and hospitals in general. Then I'm afraid of the recovery. Last time I was sick for about a month when everyone said it would be a nothing type of thing with the band. Nausea. Then lastly of course afraid I will fail at my 2nd weight loss surgery.

Wondering if everyone else went through these jitters? If anyone has regrets that they did the surgery? What you did to calm your nerves. My poor husband thanks you in advance for anyone who can calm me down haha

My surgery is Jan 11 and I understand. I keep my mind on after the surgery. I have had two c sections and know there is recovery involved but imagine you are going to be well taken care of during your surgery . You are on a road to better yourself.

I can't speak on the lap band but I am a tad bit over 4 months post-op on the sleeve and almost 75 pounds down. It is one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have had 10 surgeries in my life, and this one was extremely minor. I had very little pain. The only pain I really had was from the gas. I had no stomach pains or incision pains at all. Just remember to walk walk walk after your surgery and that will help tremendously with the gas pains. It's only normal to be nervous, but I think you will be glad that you went through with this. I wish you all the best luck.

I'm a band to sleeve revision also. My sleeve surgery was 12/27/2016. My surgeon does but do the revision in I've surgery. My band was removed in November. That was a glorious day. I hated that thing. I can't believe I waited 10 yrs to get it removed. So far very happy with the sleeve. The only bad note of this whole process is learning I am sensitive to aspartame. It gave me a Migraine post op. Terrible. My way of dealing with nerves was to start doing everything I could pre op to prepare myself. I started the low carb, high Protein diet back in September. I started drinking 100 oz of Water a day. I started regular exercise. Then I cleaned and organized my house. No regrets at all.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
