Shaky every morning upon weakening?

Recommended Posts

(That's supposed to say "waking")

Hi guys. I'm 3 weeks post-op VSG. I'm having something new going on, which is shakiness every morning when I wake. It's almost uncontrollable. I can barely grasp and hold onto anything, my legs feel like Jello and I feel shaky and dizzy.

After about 30 mins, I'm fine. I'm not nauseous or sick. Just have the shakes really bad. Anyone else had this problem and/or know what causes it? Is it blood sugar related? What can I do besides waiting it out every morning? Thanks in advance!

This happened to me a couple nights when I came home from the hospital. I think it had something to do with low blood sugar, and at that point I wasn't getting enough nutrients or fluids the day prior to waking like that. Sorry I don't have more to offer!

Thats okay! Glad I'm not the only one, although I'm sorry you went through it, too. Hoping your feeling better!

If you were on Diabetic Medications before your surgery, you should probably stop them now. Metformin disappeared from my daily routine immediately, so check with your surgeon.

Yes! This happens to me every day. I was sleeved on 11/30. I now try to give myself about half an hour before I do anything when I first wake up. I also take a glass of ice Water to bed so I can sip it a few times throughout the night and have it there when I first wake up. That has helped me a lot!

You're right. I was on metformin before surgery, but I haven't taken it at all post op.

That's a good tip! I will try this. Have you asked your surgeon about it? If so, what did he say? I have my first post-op appt this Friday, so I will ask my surgeon then and report back with my findings. Lol

Could be your blood pressure too

That's a good thought! I hadn't thought about that. I need to get a BP cuff and start checking it. It was high for a few months pre-op.

Day of surgery: BP 165/110,

Blood Sugar 165

No idea what it is right now. Need to get some monitors, I guess.

I experience the exact same thing, and it's due to low blood sugar. If I try to get in the shower, the heat nearly makes me pass out.

The solution that works for me every time is 1/4 cup of orange juice (or other fruit so long as it is 100% juice). This fixes me right up in less than 5 min.

Yes!! I will definitely try some juice. I have some in the fridge now, and just woke up, feeling the same.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
