Surgery is 12-27 and I am so nervous..help

Recommended Posts

I am so nervous about my upcoming bypass on 12/27. My husband is supportive, and he loves me and thinks I am doing the right thing. I guess I'm looking for more validation that I am doing the right thing for me and my family. I'm in tears for the first time during this journey because I'm scared of failing, scared of my future as a bypass patient, but even more scared of being morbidly obese for the rest of my life. I'm just looking for a pep talk, some words of encouragement from someone who understands the struggle. Thanks for listening ????

It is common to feel fear before a major operation. It is perfectly normal. I had RNY gastric bypass surgery over 3 years ago and it is a totally different experience than dieting. After surgery I lost my hunger - hunger that was constantly, continually gnawing on my bones. I found that it was not difficult to lose weight when I had no hunger driving me. So good luck on your upcoming surgery and check back with us when you are on the other side.

@@harmony5001 i was a mess leading up to my surgery. Particularly the two days before. I was crying all the time. I'm a single mom and was worried about a lot of things. Almost bailed but truly glad I didn't. Coming out of surgery was difficult for me for a couple of days but other then that it's been really good. Very blessed and lucky.

Hey surgery twin ! I hear you I was going through the same thoughts and feelings as well. Seeing as our procedure is one day away all I can say is pray on it and try to stay positive. Keep up with the support groups and staying accountable it helps a lot !!! Feel free to add me surgery buddy !!!

@harmony5001...just breathe...keep reminding yourself we are always much stronger then we sometimes give ourselves credit for...and taking this step to get back in control of YOUR future, takes a lot of courage, so pat yourself on the back for having that courage.

I'm just past 6 months post rny, and have zero regrets. Life will get better and better for you; you just have to be willing to allow it to be, and saying yes to this path is a big, courageous step. Good luck, and look forward to 2017 putting you back in control!

I know your feeling. I just had surgery on 12/23/16. I have been home two days. I wondered if I made a mistake. The answer is no. This is what I want. I am learning my pouch and it took about 24 hours for my pain control, but now I am doing ok at paying clothes attention to what I eat.

Think about how bad you want to reach goals, think about the outcome. I was never nervous about mine, shoot it was my 3rd surgery of 2016 (1for ulnar neuropathy in elbow w/ carpel tunnel, the other was cataract) so I reminded myself what my goals were & had surgery on 12/20. I was a bit nauseous a couple days afterward but as of yesterday no nausea. I hv lost 17lbs since Tuesday& I am following Drs. Orders. You will do great! If you believe in the power of prayer, pray for peace. Can't wait to hear abt your progress.

I had gastric bypass in 2014. I had to stay one night in the hospital because I was diabetic and had high blood pressure. I had no problems with the surgery and did not have any pain medication or need any. I had a 4 hour drive home from the hospital and except for gas, I was fine!! And I was 62 at the time!! You will be great! Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
