Has anyone changed doctors after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I picked my surgeon because he was experienced and well regarded by other doctors. That's all good and I'm now 10 days post-op.

The problem is I dislike the rest of his practice and particularly the nutritionist. She is the least caring health care professional I've ever had. All she does is read to me off her computer without looking at me. She makes no attempt to learn anything about me or work with me as an individual. She offers no more value than reading instructions from a piece of paper. I want someone who listens and helps me make choices that work for me.

There are a couple of nice individuals at this practice, but overall I feel like it's a bariatric assembly line. I'm not really sure what to do. I want empathetic care that treats me like a person.

As well you should hon! Nobody likes to be treated as if they are not there and not a participant in matters concerning them. How rude! Sad to say, but there are people like that. On the island I live, there is only one "team" so I did not really have options. Luckily it is a very supportive team. I am sorry you are experiencing this and I cannot say I have an answer for you by experience except be assertive. As you start to lose weight and gain confidence, speak up for Yourself. There are people in this world that fat shame in exactly the manner you described much as they would ignore anything else they didnt like. I am always flabbergasted by people who take up professions they are not suited for especially when it deals with People! Speak to your surgeon about your experience and ask if you can be referred to another dietician. You don't have to do anything or see anyone that makes you uncomfortable. I hope this gets better. On another note, wishing you a better Holiday season and congratulations on your post-op. Aloha????

Tell her point blank what you think. I did that with one of the nurses at my program. She was rude, harsh, and overbearing. I let it go the first time, but when she came in with the same attitude the second time, I had had enough. She came to the part where she asked if I had any more questions. I said, "Yeah. What do I have to do to see someone else? We aren't hitting it off very well."

You would have thought I threw a bucket of cold Water in her face. Her demeanor changed abruptly, and she was soft spoken and timid for the rest of the appointment. That did not change my mind. I have not seen her since. But tell the people who are treating you poorly that you don't like it, and that you want to know where else you can take your business - and of course your money. See if that gets a response.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
