I was sleeved on 2/13. Stayed one night in the hospital. Gas pains were not bad. Pain from the incisions required narcotics for the first 10 hours. Since I wasn't sleeping well in the hospital, I would get up and walk around throughout the night. Went for about 6 walks during my hospital stay. I was surprised that more people were not walking around since 9 of us had the surgery that day.

By the next morning, I'd say the pain was a 3/10. liquid Tylenol was all I needed for pain once I got home. But I did take a Percocet at nighttime just to relax. I tolerated fluids well the day after surgery. With every sip there was a moment of pain as it went into my sleeve. This sensation has improved every day and is almost non-existant at day 10. I took Gas X strips in the days following surgery but didn't really notice a difference. By day 4 post op, I felt pretty darn good. I spent most of day 5, 6, and 7 going out, running errands, driving and living a pretty normal life. On day 8, I went back to work and it was not a problem at all as I work in an office. Also, I drink one cup of Smooth Move Tea to prevent Constipation.

I lost 15 lbs in 10 days post op and I'm down a total of 70lbs since the process started on October 13, 2016.

1 day in the books guys! Just got up, waiting to get the swallow test so I can start drinking. All in all not too bad. Pain has been very manageable, no gas pains yet (fingers crossed)!

Hey Mike, how are you doing today? Sending prayers your way!!

2nd day here. Was discharged yesterday before noon and spent the day drinking those 1oz cups every 15min. I did start getting the gas movement which is painful but subsides after a few seconds. Fortunately I haven't felt the nausea since leaving from the hospitol so that's good.

I had surgery yesterday and was sent home today. So happy to be sleeping in my bed tonight. Water and Soup broth are going down well. Making sure to keep up with my pain meds since my belly is sore/tender. Hope everyone else is doing just as well who had surgery this week!

GM sponda23, coming to see how your doing so far? Sending prayers your way.

I had surgery yesterday, and I'm on my way home now! Everything went really, really well, and I have very minimal pain. There's a lot of gas, and I'm keeping up with my stepping and my sipping, but overall, I feel wonderful! Much better than I thought I would for someone who just had 85% of their stomach cut out haha!!

Thank you, strengthin#ers. I feel pretty good except for a really sore throat and headache today. I'm getting all my liquids in but bedtime is rough- I'm a side-sleeper, so having to sleep on my back has been really hard. How are you doing?

Day three post op today. Struggling to find a balance between napping and sipping. I'm noticing that my mouth is dry and trying to stay hydrated but it is a struggle today. Haven't needed anything for pain since last night, and even then, it was just one Tylenol. Just gotta keep sipping..

im pretty good, side sleeper as well but after a good dose of mess....IM GOOD. Sometimes while I'm watching TV I want to turn on my side and it gets frustrating. But all in all I'm well.

I totally understand, but I sip all the while I'm awake and let God take care of the rest while I'm sleep. As long as I do what I can HE will take care of what I can't. So I don't worry about that. Are you able to do your broth and diet juices? All that plays a part in the hydration so you will be ok. Just get it in. WE GOT HIS RECREATINGCATE!!!!

Hey Mike, how are you doing today? Sending prayers your way!!

Doing good. Feel a little tired and weak today but still able to put down all my fluids and Protein so hoping that starts to make a difference. I think I'm experiencing some caffeine withdrawals, I really screwed up by not quitting altogether before surgery- I figured taking it down to 1/3 my normal intake would work out....I guess I was wrong. Thanks for the prayers and well wishes. You guys are the best

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
