New here, procedure set for Jan. 12, 2017!

Recommended Posts

Hello all, glad to have found this forum! I had the ReShape dual balloon insertion on 1/17. The 36 hours after I got home were beyond awful. I was dry-heaving constantly and my entire abdomen felt awful. All of the meds that I was given to help would be vomited out as soon as I took them. My dr gave me anti-nausea suppositories and those really helped.

Right now, though, I have consumed very few calories and am finding it impossible to get many in. Over the course of the day so far I have been having a sip of Water every few minutes, tried 1/2 a popsicle, had a bite of Jello (ew), had a few sips of an ensure shake (per my dr) and gagged down a package of pudding. My abdomen just HURTS I've read many scary reviews online where people had the balloons removed because they couldn't tolerate them. I truly hope that doesn't happen for me!

It will get better. I have an Orbera and it took me until about Day 6 to start feeling better. Did you doc give you any meds for sromach cramping? The kind that dissolves under your tongue? Those helped me a lot with the cramping

Oh man. Im confused? How many calories should I be taking in right now. I can "eat" and drink all day long and still only manage about 200. How does everyone else manage this??

Get as many as you can, but I was the same way - about 200 the first couple of days (mostly regular Popsicles). Not optimal but if that's all you can do ... :-/ Don't forget Jello and broth - other sources of clear calories. There are clear Protein drinks, but I was not able to stomach them. Hang in there!!

@@BlueTuna - I'm so sorry - that sounds awful!! Are you eating regular or diet Popsicles? If the latter, try the former. Also you might also like Isopure - a clear Protein drink. It didn't agree with me but some people love it. Are you at the point yet when you can do eggs? If not, don't rush it, but when I was able to move to soft foods l felt a lot better. I also enjoyed frozen spaghetti w/meat sauce. It's really soft so it was easy to digest and had lots of Protein from the meat sauce, which made me feel better. Best wishes!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
