I'm on my bowel prep day for surgery in the morning, and I've been throwing up and had nausea all day along with the poops I'm supposed to be having.

In the past, I've always thrown up taking mag citrate. Today, I thought I was doing well because I drank it all and didn't throw up....until an hour and a half later. I've thrown up in 3 big episodes and then when I started drinking my Powerade zero with miralax, I started throwing up again.

I am waiting on the nurse to call back and have stopped my powerade zero/miralax mix. I'm wondering if I could take zofran to help. I have to get this down to be ready for tomorrow.

Any advice or insight?

Yeah, I haven't been able to do all the Miralax. I did all the mag citrate and 1/2 a box of dulcolax. I'm almost clear now, so I think I'm fine.

That is scary to hear. I planned on getting my house in order and cleaned up from Christmas the day before my surgery on the 27th. Sounds like I won't be very productive. Did your surgery go ok? How long did the clean out take?

Thanks

Well, I left laundry undone. Lol. The clean out took from noon to about midnight. But I actually had an accident in my sleep. ????

You may not get the nausea I had. I have not always been a puker but I tend toward nausea after having my daughter. If you tend to be nauseated, maybe take zofran or something similar ahead of time.

On the positive side, I'm well medicated and have no post op nausea. Also, I have a morphine pump I can push once every 10 minutes. I got it at 2 yesterday and have only pushed it 9 times including before and after a walk down the hall. So, I think the recovery is off to a great start.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
