Worried about Breastfeeding!

Recommended Posts

Hello all, so glad to find this forum. I am having the sleeve surgery in January and i'm STILL breastfeeding my 22 month old toddler. I am so worried about having the surgery because he nurses ALL DAY LONG. he is seriously hooked! SO i'm not worried about my supply really, i'm more worried about the pain of having him on me. i'm also worried about tearing and the incision site. Has anyone nursed a day after surgery? If so, i'm curious to hear how it went!! other than that i'm very excited/terrified. :)

Sorry to add to your confusion, but you may also need to worry about the nutrients he will be draining from your body. Even without breastfeeding, it is a challenge to keep our bodies sufficiently nourished in the first few months. Good luck!

make it a great day

You can wean him or add calories t o your diet. Ask the NUT. You won't be able to pick him up opts op but at that age he can settle himself. My large suture line was sore until I started wearing a binder, the small ones were barely noticeable after the 2nd day. I don't think that a wiggling toddler hitting or bumping your abdomen can do much damage but I would make sure he isn't wearing shoes.

So I got sleeved and got pregnant 5 months out. I have been breastfeeding her for 10 months. I was roughly 14 months out when she was born and I started breastfeeding her. My personal opinion is I don't know that you will be able to eat enough to sustain a milk supply. Breastfeeding takes up roughly 500 calories a day, during pregnancy you only need and additional 200 on top of a regular diet. I don't think I would be able to keep my milk up right after surgery just knowing how little I could physically hold. I really had to graze all day just to get enough during pregnancy 5 months out when I could hole an actual whole 1/2 cup at a time. Best of luck to you!!! I hope you can do it all mama!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
