Recommended Posts

gooood morning ,

curious to know how much help you would need after the surgery while you're home .

my mom is insisting that i need to stay with her

and my friends mom ( who had the surgery ) says i'm not going to be able to do anything

i know everyone is different , but how was recovery for everyone ?

What kind of things would you need help with? Do you have kids/pets to take care of? My husband helped with kids and pets but if it was just myself I would have been fine on my own. I would not have needed to stay with anyone.

I didn't need any help after 3 days. I had a lot of body aches on the 2nd day, but I was fine on the 3rd day. In my opinion, depending on how you feel, you should be fine on your own (unless you have kids). Just make sure you get in your fluids and Vitamins. It would be nice if she would come check on you at least every other day.

I didn't need any help with anything......My husband was here with me but I was fine....I didn't take any pain meds once I got home from the hospital....didn't need any. But like you said everyone is different.

I live alone and didn't need any help after surgery. I had friends on standby in case I had a complication. Overall, my recovery was pretty easy. Went off pain meds after day 2, no gas pain, walked, slep, and focused on getting Water in.

I didn't need any help after surgery, other than some assistance with lifting bags of kitty litter -- which looks like it will not be an issue for you.

Frankly it would have irritated me to have someone hovering around me and trying to be "helpful." I'm a pretty firm believer that taking care of yourself after this surgery is generally better than having someone wait on you -- getting up and moving around is good for you IMO.

I didn't need any help. Unless you have severe complications, which in thus case, you would still be in the hospital, I don't see the reason, why would you need help. It's a good motivation and reason also, as moving and walking around after the surgery, is necessary.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
