Feeling Scared and Needing Reassurance.

Recommended Posts

Hey everybody!

So, I get sleeved tomorrow (Monday Dec. 12) and I'm starting to feel extremely anxious and almost nauseous. Is this normal?

Reading a lot of the forums and posts, everyone seems to be excited, but I'm just scared.

My surgeon hasn't had me do a 2 week pre-op diet, and I just feel so so scared to go under.

Can anyone share their experiences with pain and waking up or just general advice?

Thanks

It is completely normal to be nervous beforehand. For the months leading up to my surgery I was nothing but excited! Once the one week mark hit I was terrified! Since that was my first time having major surgery. But trust me you will be fine. Waking up in recovery I remember being slightly nauseous and in pain, nothing crazy though. In my still drugged state I had asked for medicine for both, so by the time I came to I felt better. I did have waves of nausea and vomiting throughout the night, but I think that all depends on the person. I was actually a special/difficult case so thinking back on it now I'm not surprised. In regards to pain I never really asked for medicine, they always just gave it to me but by day 2 I was completely off of them. I also asked for non narcotic pain medicine because I didn't want to potentially get sick from the harder stuff! But it worked just fine. Again true me you'll be fine! Best of luck!!!

Being scared is a natural instinct and no matter how excited people state that they were there is always that moment. The moment that you ask yourself am I doing the right thing. The moment that you think to yourself I hope all of this work out correctly. That moment that you think, pray and hope that I'm not different from everybody else. And mostly you pray that you have the same results that people post about. however once you do it, it will be the best thing that you've ever experience in your life. I got sleeve on August 23rd 2016 and I tell you it is the best decision that I ever made. I can remember laying on the table right before the surgery scared out of my mind. I couldn't wait for the procedure to be over. I am so glad that I didn't let my nerves get the best of me. you will not regret it and welcome to the loser bench and enjoy the ride. I wish that I would have joined the loser bench years ago. Congratulation on your decision to do something positive to prolong your life.

You will be fine, I will take the the new attitude towards a healthier life with me and leave that person that put my life on a roller coaster of being heavy, hidden and not showing my true bubbly beautiful self..I got this!!! You'll be fine don't worry just relax. You almost got me in tears thinking of the emotions I know I'll have once I'm in your shoes. Just breath I don't know your religion but pray.... I hope it brings you peace and comfort.

I am scheduled for surgery in two days. I had been told it wasn't approved so I didn't keep on the diet. They called this morning to tell me my appeal was approved. I am so scared. I am sure we will do great. Best of luck

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
