How long till you could drive?

Recommended Posts

I read a thread where someone said they could not drive for 5 days after surgery. Is this the norm? My surgery is on a Thursday and I was planning on going back to work the following Monday. I do commute 25 miles to work. Is 4 days too soon?

Our doctor will not let us drive or go back to work for 7 days. Once we see him after 7 days he then will let you go back to work and drive.

I was banded on August 15. I had no restriction about driving, although I certainly wouldnt have wanted to drive the day of surgery. I had surg on Wed and was driving on Friday. I think the no driving is more about the medication. I was given liquid codiene, but of course did not take it once I started driving.

Probably best to check with your own clinic though

I had surgery on Friday...took the tylenol with codiene Friday night, and that was it. I'm going to see how I can drive around the subdivision today, and then if I'm ok...gonna drive myself to work tomorrow.

My surgeon told me that as long as I wasn't on any pain meds and felt I was alert and quick enough to respond as usual then I could drive when I felt ready to. I had surgery on 9-11 and drove on 9-14. Good luck with your upcoming surgery!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
