Just the beginning

Recommended Posts

I attended a seminar and scheduled my first appointment for wls. The coordinator asked me to take a recommendation letter. Today, I spoke with my pcp who I thought would be against wls but he was quite excited for me. He talked to me about the pros and cons and how is a lifetime commitment and he told me several of his patients had wls and they are doing so well keeping up. He told me to research a good surgeon, I told him who I've selected and it turns out he knows the surgeon I selected for this process. I explained to him how it was a difficult decision to make but I want control of my life and want to be there for my kids. He wrote a recommendation letter and gave me a big hug. I made up my mind a year ago but feel like this is the beginning of my journey. My first appointment is scheduled for the first week of January.

Good luck!!I was really nervous too. I even went to the appointment alone because I didn't want to feel or be criticized and embarrassed in front of my hubby. I guess it was all in my head. Have you been to your first surgeon appointment yet?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
