My Fingernails are Growing

Recommended Posts

Super excited to finally have fingernails that I can file and paint. All of the Protein I'm now consuming (instead of carbs) is really showing in my nails. I think I will schedule a manicure for just before Christmas. This is a nice side effect of my new healthier eating habits.

Did your nails not really grow before? Or were they just poor quality?

My nails have always grown extremely fast (I have to trim them twice a week), but I've always been a big meat eater and maybe that's why.

Mine have been growing too. They would barely grow but if they did they were always soft and bendy and hardly ever grew above my fingerb tips. But now they grow faster and harder and stuff. Still chip and break like before but not as much or often.

My hair came back in thicker, curlier and much healthier as well. My stylist cannot believe how thick my hair is now.

I take hair SKIN AND NAILS every day. And yes my nails do grow faster than before. And I think I notice more now because I get my nails done every 2 weeks.

My nail did not grow fast or strong before. They would break easily. Now my hands look nicer.

Had lapband surgery 10/12/16

My nails have been growing as well. I hope they thicken up because they used to always break and so I would try to keep them short. (Also I'm an accountant so using a calculator with nails is a pain). However I'd be happy to take that pain for pretty nails.

Our bodies are smart: If our diet is low in certain nutrients, Vitamins, amino acids, Protein, etc. then our body prioritized vital systems such as internal organs to receive those nutrients. hair and nails are lowest on the totem pole, so they are the first to show the effects of malnutrition.

It's ironic that we as a population are both obese and malnourished at the same time, but it's because so many carb-sugar-fatty-processed foods are empty calories and/or have chemicals that interfere with nutrient absorption. And partly because modern farming techniques have depleted the soil to the point where scientists record only a fraction of the nutrients in our fruits/vegetables today as there were 50-75 years ago).

I started losing it fast at 8 weeks post op and it continued through month 13. that said, all the while i was losing, new hair was coming in. By month 15 post op i had sprouts everywhere. It drove me nuts.

Then before I new it, My hair was thicker than it was before.

I did take Biotin for the first year but i am not convinced it did anything.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
