Migraines/"out of it" Pre-op diet

Recommended Posts

I just started my pre-op diet today. I knew I would get Migraines during this diet because I'm addicted to caffeine and I wasn't going to drink it. However, I feel generally weak and a little "out of it." It's an unaware feeling, kinda drowsy. Any way to fix this? Anyone else experience this? I drank all my Protein for today.

I cut caffeine off on the day of my pre diet and I remember being generally pissed off with everything and everyone around me. I didn't even want to say hello to cab driver that was driving us to the hospital and I am a chatterbox normally. I was sitting there like the angry cat and my sister was giggling at how ridiculous I had become.

Think of how nice your life is about to become. Your Migraines will disappear as you lose weight so think of it as the last couple of weeks in your life when you will have to deal with them. It will make it easier..

I chose not to cut out caffeine until surgery so that Migraines (and mood swings) would be handled with post op pain meds.

My preop liquid diet starts Dec 9th and I cut caffeine (coffee addict here) out 4 days ago. It was horrible but now it is getting a little better and hopefully the 10 day liquid diet won't be so foggy for me.

Giving up caffeine and being on the liquid diet made me tired and sleepy. It was about 3 weeks after surgery when I switched to soft Proteins that I started to feel better. Good luck, it will pass.

Had lapband surgery 10/12/16

Getting in a lot of Water helps with the Migraines. Also if it is cold outside, go breathe the cold air. I can't tell you why but it helps.

I weaned off caffeine pre op. Got a lot of Migraines in the process, but Water and ibuprofen helped.

Pre op was bad, but.... I'm six months post and have not had a single Migraine since surgery. I used to have 8-10 a month and was on Rx meds for them.

I have a stupid question, I'm sure my doc told me the reason but can't recall - why do we have to cut caffeine again? Definitely one of my weakness!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
