Tell me this is a joke.... so angry!

Recommended Posts

So after being on my preliquid diet for seven days and just about to get ready to start my full liquid diet, my insurance tells me that the center where I'm having my surgery is not a blue point facility so it won't be approved. I am livid. I called my drs office and they call the insurance company and they say that's bs we have it on record that you told us this facility was approved and that it did not have to be a blue point facility. So now my surgeon and office manager are trying to get in contact with the medical director over the insurance to figure something out. I don't know what to do all I feel is anger and like eating. I ask them should I continue my liquid diet or should I stop she says its your call. I am blown by this, literally three days before my surgery, I have made plans with my job and everything, like what kind of crap is this. BCBS Anthem... Literally trying to find a reason to deny me how low of them. Everything else fits and I'm approved but now its my hospital that doesn't work for them how ridiculous and its a center of excellence

I'm sorry that's awful, I understand because the 1st day I started my liquid diet back in October my dr office called that my insurance denied it. Omg I was so upset and it made me eat even more. Now my surgery got approved for medical issues on Dec 7 so don't loose the faith. Good luck

Don't take your anger out on yourself. You have to be your friend from now on. Don't punish yourself for the bs others put you through. Make them freaking pay.

I have BCBS also. I had to have my surgery at Blue Center of Excellence also. The good thing is I had decided to use surgeons there to begin with and am not disappointed at all. We have a local doctor that does this surgery occasionally but the surgeons at the Blue Center (which was about 30 miles away) do approximately 300 of these a year. I appreciated the thoroughness. I am 63 and was checked by a cardiologist and pulmonary doctor, pre-op and post-op I've seen a psychiatrist, dietician, and a fitness/exercise specialist. My surgeon's office is in the same hospital as the surgery was performed. One whole floor is dedicated to bariatric patients and the nurses all know exactly how to handle any situation. It can be frustrating with all the hoops you have to jump through but hang in there. It is so worth it!

My surgeon is at a center of excellence which is why I'm so confused he performs tons of surgeries a year and is the hospital as well. What my insurance is telling me isn't adding up. But I'll know more Monday. Until please just pray for me to have a positive outcome

I had a mildly similar disappointment. I was scheduled for surgery Nov 4th, went the whole 9 yards, did everything I was suppose to do, work was aware, family was prepared, it was happening. Then MORNING OF my surgery I get a call from my surgeon telling me that my surgery was canceled due to a scheduling error and they'll try to fit me in sooner. I was finally scheduled for Nov. 30th, I was absolutely devastated, CURRENTLY STILL REALLY ANNOYED. I am about one week into recovery, but if it was done on Nov. 4th I'd be a month post op and over this part of the recovery stage. Rawr!

Tell me about it. I would be having surgery in a few hours. Now I'm not even sure when it will be. I'm hoping sometime next week. But for now all I can do is pray and be patient. And congrats by the way. I hope your recovery is going well for the most part. Can't wait to on the other side

I feel your pain, had similar problem with my insurance and ended up 2 weeks on liquids because I knew it could be approved any time.

I chose to stay on the liquids and take my chances instead of having to start it all over.

I am now 3 months from my surgery and I am glad I stuck with the liquids to avoid more delays than needed.

Good luck and hope it all works out well for you.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
