Just got my surgery date today of December 30th and reality is setting in.....this is becoming so real. My process was pretty fast thanks to my insurance and a great bariatric team. liquid diet starts on December 15th and my pre op appt is the following day. I feel like this all happening so fast....and I'm scared to admit that I'm waiting on something to go wrong. Or for the dr to call back and say they've made a mistake. So far only a handfull of essential people in my life know I'm having surgery, but I have yet to tell my mama and grandma. I'm most concerned about sharing this with them because I don't know what their reactions will be. I dont want them to be afraid. Im aure thwy sont know much about the Gastric Sleeve....rhwy are bithee up in age and just not up on thw latest medi al procedures. Any advice on how to share my news with them?

34 yr old wife and mom of the best 6yr old ever????

Congratulations! That's so exciting that you'll have the surgery right before the new year. What a blessing! I'm going through the process and hope to have my surgery in March or April.

I've only told three people: my husband, mother and a good friend. Of course they're worried about the surgery; there's a risk with any type of surgery and this procedure is no exception. So I'm sure your mother and grandmother will be concerned as well. Just assure them that you've done your research, have spoken with your doctors, and that you feel this will be, in the long run, a great benefit to your health and improvement to your life. They'll probably have a lot of questions, so be prepared to answer them, tell them approximately how many bariatric surgeries are performed every year and the average success rate, etc.

In the end, you have to do what's best for you and your quality of life. And if you are content and excited about your decision, I think they'll be on board, too!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
