In mid-December, I will be 6 weeks post op. Just found out today that our clinic Christmas party is going to be at a Mexican food restaurant. Mexican food is my favorite! I am highly dedicated to this journey and following my diet. I just need suggestions on what to order. A few co workers know I had surgery, most know I've been dieting. Of course I will stay away from chips and salsa. Although I know I will only be able to eat a small amount, I want to make a healthy choice. My husband already knows I will be bringing him home most of my meal. Should I order a shrimp taco and just eat the insides, no shell? Grilled chicken with a few bites of fajita veggies? I would love to know what you would do.

Ceviche! Pre op, that's been my favorite thing to order at my local Mexican restaurant. I would even mix in some of the salsa for a little kick.

But I'm still in the puréed phase now, so none of that for me for a little while longer.

Toppings of nachos, insides of tacos and enchiladas, guacomole, fajita meat and veggies, refried Beans, tortilla Soup. Mexican food is a staple here in Texas and there are lots of options!

I like the idea of fajitas, just don't eat the tortillas.

At six weeks I was still on puréed foods. Soup, or maybe a side of refried Beans with cheese might be a good choice.

Thank you everyone for your WONDERFUL suggestions! Fajita meat and veggies it is. Mrssoupmix - I will be on regular foods by then. I start soft foods this Thursday. I've been on puréed for the past two weeks. I will chew, chew, chew and take my time.

At 6 weeks, I was loving refried Beans with cheese. Make sure that fajita meat is nice and moist, that will be good, too :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
