So I am exactly 1 week, post op.

I am having so much pain every time I take a sip of Water or anything for that matter. It's like 5 seconds of a hurting\burning\ripping sensation inside of me.

Also, Protein shakes are KILLING ME!!!!!!!!! THEY ARE NASTY & make me want to vomit.

Please help me !

Suggestions or anything will help!!!!

I went through that for my first 3 weeks. I would swallow but right when it hit my stomach it would hurt then go away. It only bothered me when it was cold stuff. Hot stuff or room temperature never gave me this problem. I was told by my RN this is normal. It's swollen tissue that has to heal. No medication can treat it. So I started pinching my ear lobe when it would happen to help with the pain. As for the Protein Shakes if it makes you vomit don't drink it. You need to find something that you can tolerate for now. Try chicken broth, Jello, or yogurt if your on full liquids. Oikos Triple Zero yogurt has 15 grams of Protein. At least if you can tolerate yogurt you can get your protein in. Listen to your body. If you vomit something it means your stomach can't tolerate it right now.

I'm ) weeks out and also hated the Protein Shakes. I'm not in the US but I found a product in Australia that I mix with Water that makes a clear fruit drink. Like crystal light. They have products like these in the US (assuming you are there ). I think it's called Isopure and you can get it on Amazon. Maybe search this forum for other options. I also had a friend make me chicken bone broth, which helped. Good luck !

Homemade chicken broth in the crock pot saved me the first week because I hated anything cold. Super easy just look up the recipe on all recipes. Hope you feel better!

powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury has a nice Protein chicken broth. Just make sure the Water is less than 140 degrees or it clumps. The warmth did better than cold.

However, I loved SF Popsicles and Jello as part of my fluids. They really helped.

You need to try out different types of Protein shakes. My NUT gave me samples of several when I was starting because I also wasn't able to keep some down. I also learned I couldn't drink a full shake. I'd make half and drink it slowly. That helped me not end up getting sick.

Your stomach can have contractions/spasms during the first couple weeks whenever you swallow something down.

As for the Protein shakes, I also HATED them and couldn't drink them post surgery. I ended up using Fairlife Milk. It's a special milk that is fortified with additional Protein, with the lactose and much of the sugar filtered out. It was actually healthier than almond milk and many other alternate forms. I would mix diet cocoa mix in and drink it hot, or mix sugar-free strawberry Syrup in and drink it cold if I didn't feel like having it plain. I did this for a few months, and it was a HUGE help.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
