I'm about 7 weeks post op and still struggling with with harder stools. I take benefiber everyday AND a stool softener too. What can I do to help alleviate hard stools???

You might need to up the dose. Both should work just fine on their own. Or maybe at 7 weeks you can take in a few more green fibrous veges? Hope that helps... Good luck!

I've dealt with the same complication. I struggled with hard stools until about 9 weeks out. I went to the hospital and was given a substance called "GoLightly". Now--when you drink this stuff it forces you to go--however you will have relief.it doesn't taste great, just keep in mind it will work. I know exactly how you feel. Just try to remember it is temporary!

Maybe I should up the dose.. Like maybe 2 stool softeners and 6 tablespoons of benefiber a day to substitute the lack of veggies and fruits I'm used to eating. I also will work on trying to get more veggies in. OMG I never knew it'd be this hard, between just trying to get the liquids in, plus the Protein, plus the Vitamin supplements, plus the food, it just is impossible to do.

Try some milk of magnesia and docolax stool softeners. I tried them when I was dealing with this too. My doctor told me the combination of both can be slightly harsh on the stomach so if you take one and you're not feeling the need to vomit or feel sick take the other. This may help the situation too. Don't worry. It's very very hard in the beginning however things get easier. I had my sleeve done May 27th, 2016 I can get what I need in and I'm down 100lbs. now.

I am almost 3 months post opp. And I stared getting constipated as well. It makes sense. A mostly Protein diet. Then I found myself at the verge of dehydration, with the cramping symptoms, very little urine. Well another side effect is, our Constipation. The bowels job, among others, is to extract as much moisture from the stool as it can. The longer the stool is in the bowel, the more moisture it extracts making it harder and harder. I found a generic suppository from CVS, worked but most of all, I started drinking more Water by m a king it more appealing. The flavor additive found in almost any grocery store , next to the bulk Water. Just buy a variety, try each until you find what taste best to you. Hope that helps...

The day after my surgery, the nurse in my hospital told me that she had the sleeve a few years ago and if I had Constipation to try Milk Of Magnesia.

I had to try it a few days after I got home and it took a day to work, but work it did! Good luck!

Milk of Magnesia worked for me! I was sleeved on Nov. 16 and my doctor said i could start taking it the next day when i got home. I take 1/2 a dose every couple of days as i have always had trouble. Once I start purée/ soft foods i will incorporate more fiberous foods which should help resolve problem on its own.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
