When did you stop losing?

Recommended Posts

Ok so how long after surgery did you stop losing without trying to lose? I.e. Without watching what you're eating and trying hard to lose?! I'm currently 6 months post-op. I've reached where I'm supposed to reach and a bit beyond. And currently I'm just trying to stop my weight loss and even gain 1-2 kg.. any advise??

This WLS is a life long process. We just shift from loss to maintain modes.

We must watch and manage our food and activity daily, else the two headed dragon of weight gain will catch back up with us very quickly.

I sill have a short while to go till I hit maintenance, but know it will take a while to correctly dial in my diet and watch daily to insure I never fall back again.

As a note: My son had sleeve 3 years ago, and stopped his diet management about a year ago, thinking he knew what was needed. He has gained back 30 lbs. and I hope he gets back on track before it gets too far away from him.

Good Luck

I stopped losing at 18 months post op when i hit my goal. And, there is never a day that I am not focused on what i eat and how much i eat.

Maintaining has been the hardest stage of all for me. Mostly because at this stage, I can eat more than what i could after the first year and I can eat pretty much anything i want.

Of course that doesnt mean i should but on occasion, I have gone off plan. I have found that if i get into a a pattern of that, i gain weight. As soon as i go back to the plan, I am maintaining again.

It seems like there is a place where your body is comfortable and that is when you stop losing. For me, that place is somewhere between 158 and 165 because that is where my weight fluctuates.

Thankfully that is goal for me.

I am now 2 years post op and always fearful of gaining so I have to make good choices every day.

Incidentally I have never suffered from dumping prior to this. That being said, there were a few days where i definately ate too much sugar at once (I had some special K cereal). I had a mild version of dumping syndrome and would hate to see a full on dumping because the mild version really sucked. My heart was pounding, i was sweating and felt like crap for about an hour and a half.

Not realizing that it was dumping, i had another bowl of Cereal a few days later and the same thing happened.

The Cereal box is not in the garbage and i wont do that again.

Good question. I am 8 months out and down 177 lbs. I currently weigh 156.

About a month ago my body basically just decided to stop losing. I'm maybe down 1 or 2 lbs over the last month. It wasn't a conscious decision really. I just focus on getting good nutrition by eating all high quality foods. My body seems to be taking care of the rest.

It's worked out well so far as I am fairly thin now (I'm 5'8") and don't desire to lose significantly more weight.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
