First day I can eat with no restrictions

Recommended Posts

Not gonna lie, I'm kinda nervous! My NUT cleared me to start eating a regular diet and I'm so nervous I'm gonna mess it up. I track my food, which to this point has been very simple. I'm not afraid I'll go back to bad habits, but I'm afraid I won't be eating the right things. Not enough Protein, to many carbs, to frequently, not eating enough, etc...I know it'll take some getting used to, but it's scary! I also have fears of never getting out of these clothes, almost 100lbs down and besides going down 1 or 2 pant sizes, all my clothes still fit. Its very depressing. This journey has been very difficult mentally.

Currently I've lost 45lbs since surgery on Oct 5th, down to 279. With a starting weight of 324 at surgery and 372 when I started the program.

That is awesome that you'very lost almost 100 pounds! I can certainly understand the mental aspect as well. Don't let "real food" be scary. This is a time to track your basics (calories, carbs and protein). Follow the instructions on your doctor's plan and experiment with some of your favorite recipes to make them friendly for your diet goals. I actually have more fun cooking now than I ever had before and I always loved to cook.

Wow you're doing amazing! It's normal to worry as we progress stages. Fear of the unknown. I say keep it simple at first. Lean Proteins prepared the way you like, and if after the first bite it doesn't agree with you, try again later. Stick with what you know works, and get more adventurous down the road.

Congratulations! My surgeon released me on the 10th to eat regular and I have the same fears???? I had the gastric bypass on October 17th and it's been a journey but I keep hearing it gets better so I'm just sticking to the plan and having faith it's going to work. Looking forward to lifestyle changes.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
