Why isn't the scale going down?

Recommended Posts

OK...I had my second fill on August 28. My doctor filled me pretty good and I tell you what...after a couple of bites I can't eat anymore. My husband is amazed at how little I eat. A couple of teaspoons of cottage cheese and I'm done. Anyway...the scale keeps going UP. :cry What the hell is going on? B) I don't understand...how can I be gaining weight when I'm barely eating anything? I'm guessing that I'm eating about 800 calories a day and the things that I am eating are healthy items. What could be the problem? Anyone have any ideas? Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :help::help::help::help::help::help::help::help::help::help:

THANKS EVERYONE!!!!

How long has it been since you lost any weight, a month, two weeks? According to your ticker you have lost an average of 2.5 lbs a week since your surgery which is really good. You dont have your past data on there so I dont know how much if any of that is pre surgery.

I agree with metal band make sure you are eating enough and make sure you are eating protiens. What did you eat yesterday that made up your calories? Are you working out? If not, get moving!!

I know my weight loss will be good for a few weeks, then nada for a few more. My weight went down, and then back up 3 lbs for a week and a half. Over the last few days it has magically gone down for a total of 5 lbs. If its a short term period of no weight loss it could just be he normal ups and downs.

Yep, I'm in the same boat. I recently dropped ten pounds over about two weeks and for the last week...NOTHING!!!

I think our bodies need to adjust and the loss stops for a brief time...then BAM there goes another 2-4 pounds! I sure hope my scale moves soon before I go mental! lol

i struggle with this every single month. I get a fill, i drop ten lbs, then it slowly starts to come back two weeks later, and i not only keep track of my intake over at FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal but also work out! once i started working out at the gym, it DID help keep things managable but still...i dont know.

currently im too tight, and on liquids. While i was on clears for a week i dropped four lbs. but gained a lb last night when i started pureeds and full liquids!

i get frustrated with it sometimes. it seems like there are just people whos bodies fight the band or dont work as well with it as others seem to.

Thanks for all of the info. guys, keep it coming. OK...yesterday I ate a scrambled egg for Breakfast (couldn't get any more down), cottage cheese for mid-morning snack, a Lean Cuisine for lunch and for dinner I had Beans and half of a crab cake (basically crab meat...no fillers). I know that I need to improve on my Protein because my hair is falling out like crazy...I need to concentrate more on that.

I understand that if you look at my overall weight loss thusfar, it looks good. Here's the breakdown...two week pre-op liquid diet (dropped 15 pounds)...two week post-op diet (dropped another 15 pounds)...liquid diet after first fill (dropped some more)...liquid diet after second fill (dropped some more). It appears that I can lose on a liquid diet, but once I start eating food (no matter how much or how little) I gain weight.

I do work out. I ride my bike and go to Curves. I am also registering for Water aerobics at my local college. It's really driving me crazy. I guess what I really need to do is stop weighing myself everyday. If I just weighed myself on Monday mornings maybe that would be better for me. I have tried to do that but with the scale looking me in the face in the morning, I just have to hop on it because I'm addicted to it...even though I hate it most of the time.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who goes mental over these things. Don't get me wrong...I am VERY happy over the amount of weight that I have lost to date and I wouldn't change it for anything but it seems like when I really watch what I eat and the amount that I eat it does me no good. I'M SO FRUSTRATED!!!!! :angry

Keep the advice coming.

It's because when you first start losing weight after you haven't lost in a while the first thing to go is Glycogen that is stored in muscle. After you deplete the glycogen then the fat will start to go.

It's all working as it is supposed to, hard as it is just try to be patient. Weight loss is just around the corner.

Are you adding exercise? You are about to lose quite a bit of weight since it sounds as though you are at your sweet spot so you'll want to maintain muscle. With ANY massive weight loss you WILL lose muscle, the key is retain as much muscle as possible. That is done by maintaining your Protein to what your doc prescribes and exercise added with weight resistance. The more muscle you have the faster you will burn fat, that's why men lose so much faster than women, they have more muscle.

Besides, when you exercise you burn the glycogen faster and the faster you burn glycogen the faster fat will be burned.

Many believe this is starvation mode, it isn't. It is a matter of what your body burns first.

Also, track and log your caloric intake. I think about 99.9% of us are shocked at what we are actually consuming vs. what we think we are consuming. It helps you to make better food choices in many cases.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
