Okay so this is going to be a long one so my apologies in advance. I just need help and someone who understand somewhat what I'm going threw. I am 2 years 2 months and 4 days post RNY gastric bypass. I started this journey almost 3 years ago. I chose to take more time then you had to going to the dietitian to make sure 1 I couldn't do this with out the surgery and 2nd to make sure I was 100% ready and prepared for the long road ahead of me. My heaviest I was over 300lbs I stopped weighing myself when I got to 300 ???? at surgery I weighed 269 lbs and I am just over 5'5.5 in height. I had my surgery in Seattle Wa. At a hospital known for weight lost surgery and with a Dr. That has been doing this for years. The surgery for what we knew went well till the next day as they where telling me to get ready to go home just 24 hours post surgery I just had to pee first. I was so excited to be able to go home and be in my own bed but as I went to the bathroom (without help) to try and pee I started to feel as if something was wrong. I pulled the card I could tell I was gonna pass out. The following thing I know my husband walks in and finds me passed out and blood everywhere. Said it looked like a murder scene. From the time I went into the bathroom from the time my hubs got there 30 mins had passed and still no Nurse had responded to the pulled cord not pushed button but pulled cord. Finally my husband starts yelling for help and they come running. As it turns out I had a internal GI bleed that was being digested and going threw my tract and flowing out my rectum. I bleed out into my gut. I was transfered to the ICU for a week while I healed and got better. So you would think that was the worst of it right.... But nope I had issues with being able to even swallow liquids. They the nurses and Dr. Kept telling me it will pass it will pass finally after about 4 months they started doing tests and they found out I had a huge ulcer. So they say that's the issue take these meds. My question was why did I have a ulcer I don't ever or have ever taken any aspirin or ibuprofen. No answer. So I take the meds and still pain nausea and unable to eat. So I finally go see my PCP and he takes 1 look at my labs and say its your gallbladder if they are not willing to take it out I will send you someplace else. So I tell my bariatric surgeon this and they act immediately and run the test well turns out my Gallbladder was only working a 2% to be able to take it out you have to be under 32% so I have the surgery in April of 2015 to remove my Gallbladder. After I heal from this I still have severe abdominal pain nausea and do not tolerate anything! I was hospitalized a few times for malnutrition and other issues with my nutrition and blood levels and the bariatric Dr I had the nurse finally told me you just need to eat more... I have been telling them I CAN NOT EAT!!! I also at this point have been going into the infusion clinic to get IV liquids and nutrition. But there answer to the issue was to eat more. Finally after my PCP seeing the issues I've had loosing my hair and not able to even walk I was dying slowly dying refers me to another Bariatric Dr. At this point in have gone 1 year and 4 months and no joke 15 mins into my appointment with the new Dr. He does a simple test and finds out I 1 have a stricture and 2nd I have a candy cane deformity so he immediately schedules me for my 1st revision on my bypass to dilate the stricture and remove the candy cane. So things where going better after I heal from that surgery but still have some pain and lots of nausea so I go another 7 months with having issues and finally go back to my new bariatric Dr. He finds a kink lower down in the first new curve of my small bowel. So 1 year and 11 months after my original bypass surgery and 7 after my 1st revision surgery I'm back in to have another revision and the hope is that this will be the end. After this surgery I will be out of pain and can finally eat. Well I healed fairly fast with this last surgery and I can eat drink per and poo all on my own and I couldn't be happier there I am finally able to start living life 2 years later but I seem to not to be able to stop loosing weight. I have lost all my fat at this point and they say I am now loosing muscle. I weigh as of today 118lbs and they say 20 lbs of that is extra skin. I eat what I'm suppose to even more to try and gain weight but nothing I will stay at the same weight for about a month then loose anywhere from 2-5 lbs I am at a loss I don't know what to do anymore and my husband is also he says its so hard to watch the love of your life slowly die and there is nothing you can do about it but just watch them waist away. This broke my heart. This is affecting everyone around me not just me. We also have 3 kids my daughter who is only 17 years old has kinda had to take over the house and my twin 15 year old boys are just hanging in there asking when will I get better. When will they get there mom back. I just do t know what to do anymore. I knew there was a possibility of complications but my original surgeon said it was less then 1% of people have any at all. Well it seems as if I have gotten to short stick and have gotten every one except death but honestly how much longer till then if I can't stop loosing weight now even tho I eat and eat and eat. Please help has anyone been threw anything like this or has advice on how to help would be appreciated. Thanks so much for listening well reading my long post but mostly my long road of heartache

I am so very sorry to hear your story. It is not often that we hear about such a severe case of complications.

Are you currently seeing a nutritionist? They might be able to help you figure out a diet that will allow you to gain some weight back.

If not, I would recommend a bariatric nutritionist specifically. Maybe your new bariatric surgeon could recommend one?

I hope that things turn around soon for you.

Mamabear0003, i have not had surgery yet and as some of the other posters have stated we dont get to hear to many of these stories. I am glad you shared yours with us to many times i get caught up in all the postives this surgery provides, that sometimes i forget about the negative outcomes that could happen. This is a huge reminder that this surgery is not to be taken lightly. Although i dont have any advice for you i can offer a part of my daily prayers which will be set aside for you and your family. Please keep fighting for yourself and family maybe your body has gone through so much trauma that it needs time to heal within. With our prayers maybe we can help god bless you and your family.????

God bless you. You are not alone.

I have had lots of complications. I thank God every day that I only had a vsg and not a bypass. I think that I would have died if I had had the bypass. I can't stop losing weight either. My family are still really upset too.

I look and feel awful. I am much sicker than I ever was as a fat person.

I too just have to trust God.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
